EileenMuriel. Probably with Eunice as a middle name. They were all a lot older than my Dad.
i think enthusiastic LLM use is mostly a stack of cognitive biases, unacknowledged plagiarism, and unmet needs in a trenchcoat
but also my main objections aren't about them being bad at tasks so i don't care if you think they've gotten better at it
After I noted
how a century ago
there was a pandemic
followed by fascism
and a world war,
the historian called me
and explained
that a century ago
there was a pandemic
followed by fascism
and a world war
and also by
nuclear explosions,
so let us hope
history stops repeating.

"AI" is a plague. Nothing turns me off your company or product faster than seeing breathless attempts to shoehorn in the psychosis-inducing slop machine.
I am so goddamn tired of this.
thinking of the thousands of books and movies and tv and music created by actual people that don't get noticed bc they don't get the marketing support they deserve, meanwhile these assholes are shoving the garbage theft machine down our throats with more money than god and they can't make us love it
A million people a week turning to a chatbot in their darkest moments tells you two things: the mental health system is catastrophically broken, and we've built something we're nowhere near ready for. Both can be true simultaneously.

For much of the pandemic, reassurance about #Covid in #pregnancy rested on one idea: babies didnβt test positive.
New research shows why that was incomplete -- and why exposure in the womb, not infection at birth, is the real concern.

I've not read the book, but I did grow up in Canberra. Plenty of passion, diversity, and wild life there! It ain't all suits and politics :)
Or maybe, making sure people can afford housing, health care and basic necessities, are able to form community by not having to constantly move and are ensured financial security in one of the richest countries on earth might do it? Howβs leaning right going for UK Labour? π« π« π«

Small joys. A street sweeping truck just passed by. Pippin watched from the window. I was standing further back, probably not visible. And the driver waved at Pippin.
That's the most important part of this all: that these are things that people will wear and relate to and that fascism is defeated by us forming community and making art and appreciating beauty and love and the colors you want, whatever those colors are.
All the colors. That's us.
There are some amazing people fighting back & they are standouts in a world turned upside down by truly evil people. Please listen to this amazing teacher. Her testimony made me cry & consider sharing this video.

The number of people willingly and gleefully outsourcing their brain to the billionaire's plagiarism engine for tasks they're more than capable of doing without it is genuinely breaking my will to live.

Sayinge that the adoption of a technologye ys inevitable
Ys a way to trick you
Did you write a novel⦠or did you feed prompts into a machine that spat out strung-together words to form sentences it had been programed to do since it had been trained using stolen work that had been created by a human brain?
If you fed the machine prompts, you wrote nothing and stole from many.
"My husband complains about the cold," the man said. "Can you teach me a spell to keep him warm?"
"I can teach you to bind hair into a net to catch heat," the wizard said, "using arcane counting and a pair of fine wands."
After a while, the man said "Isn't this knitting?"
"This, too, is magic."

In @aunz.theconversation.com today, @profromance.bsky.social and I have a piece about adapting romance to the screen. What makes a good adaptation?
The Epstein files show that Brexit was never a βplucky British revoltβ. In reality, Brexit was fed, and empowered, by an entire class of oligarchs and autocrats, who thrive on chaos, weak regulation and brittle institutions.
the existence of billionaires is ethically indefensible
A tan and white border collie lying on her cushion, staring intently at the camera.
Pippin thinks I should stop staring at the screen and take her for a walk. Sheβs probably right. She thinks everyone should go for a walk, βcos that would be more people to meet and pat her.
