Obama: "We are living in a time where it can be hard to hope. Each day we wake up to some new assault on our democratic institutions. Another setback to the idea of the rule of law ... but this man - Rev. Jesse Jackson - inspires us to take a harder path ... bc if we don't step up, nobody else will"
It's much easier to walk a tight rope than it is to simply stand in place. Forward momentum creates stability.

The Dow over 50,000 was proof that everything was amazingβ¦ until it wasnβt.
Weekly reminder from Lesslie Newbigin:
"When the Church tries to embody the rule of God in the forms of earthly power, it may achieve that power, but it is no longer a sign of the kingdom." #church #power #Newbigin
It isnβt just the Constantinian temptation the church must repudiate but, more significantly, the orientation toward power that underwrites it.

Good reminder.
Instead of saying "I" when you're ready to take credit, try "we."
Instead of saying "we" when you're avoiding responsibility, try "I."

I donβt think we fully grasp the damage political entanglement is having on the life/witness of the church in the U.S. The perception (or reality) will only become harder to undo.
I am not saying we should abandon politics. But engagement must be marked by wisdom, integrity & courage.
"Whataboutism" is a lazy way to debate an issue you disagree with.
"The world is more magical, less predictable, more autonomous, less controllable, more varied, less simple, more infinite, less knowable, more wonderfully troubling than we could have imagined being able to tolerate when we were young."

"This is one time where television really fails to capture the true excitement of a large squirrel predicting the weather." #groundhogday
Only as the People of God receive the stranger, the sinner, and the immigrant, those who donβt play our game our way, do we discover not only the hidden, feared, and hated parts of our own souls, but the fullness of Jesus himself. We need them for our own conversion. ~ Rohr
Few leaders possess the insight and heart of Dr. Mark Labberton. His voice is essential for the U.S. church right now, and it was a true honor to be a guest on his Conversing podcast this past week to talk all things church planting. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/m...
Leadership does not begin with title or position, it begins the moment you are more concerned about othersβ flourishing than your own.

The volume is up, the wisdom is down.
"We live on the surface of the ocean, buffeted by waves of thought and emotion, unaware of the deep, still waters beneath."

"We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them." ~ Albert Einstein
"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes." ~ Marcel Proust
"The exclusion of the weak and insignificant, the seemingly useless people, from a Christian community may actually mean the exclusion of Christ."
~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer from "Life Together."
"There is an evil which most of us condone and are even guilty of: indifference to evil... It is more universal, more contagious, more dangerous than evil itself."
~ Abraham Joshua Heschel; The Insecurity of Freedom (1966)
In a democracy, we are all shareholders.

Self-recognition is rarely confidence; it's compensation.
I just watched the 60 Minutes segment on CECOT that CBS News didn't want people to see. It appears to be researched and reported with depth and integrity. The entire story is disturbing and disgusting. Shame on CBS for canceling the airing of the segment.
