A chat with your local servo manager will get you the basic info that they have regularly scheduled fuel deliveries based on long term analysis of their sales cycles with a bit of leeway to tweak based on normal market fluctuations.
If they sell a weeks worth in a day..
The cost of the jerry cans (new) is more than the cost savings on a single purchase.

2x jerry cans is 50l or one tank of fuel. You’re saving $30 but now have to transport and store the fuel?
This is a standard tank.
10x jerry cans is 250l and you save $150.
This is 2x a Land Cruiser tank.
Trump can in fact do this by simply releasing fuel from the US SPR* at any price he wants to set.
(I was going to call it the US Strategic Reserve but USSR is too ironic)

This is entirely a surge of demand and presumably panic buying in quantities far in excess of normal demand - which in turn is throwing normal supply chain timing out.
No servos near me have run out - though prices are up 35%.
The ALP are simply going to say they will be the party that oversaw the biggest drop in fossil fuel usage in Australia.
