If you're around Palo Alto tomorrow, come hear how we gave menisci discarded from the food industry a second life to repair tracheas and eardrums @bioe-stanford.bsky.social @pennmedicine.bsky.social @pennengineering.bsky.social @upenn.edu #ENT
Cool work coming out of @thechunglab.bsky.social w/a very relatable origin story <3
βI started thinking about how, even in our lab, everything is single-use plastic because everything has to be sterile. Nothing can be contaminated. It all just started to feel very overwhelming for me personally,β
I used to show my students Dr. Richbourgβs Hydrogel Design website all the time. It is devastating to hear about these postdoctoral funding cancellations, and all the other programs impacting trainees. We have so much talent in the US that we just need to support
Lab Question:
Weβre getting a lot of non-specific staining with an HRP-conjugated Anti-His Antibody from Thermo in our Westerns. Anybody have a positive experience with one from a different supplier?

The Dire Consequences of Science Without DEI
www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
As a former college SWE eboard member and former NDSEG fellow I am devastated to see these organizations being erased from a Military Academy right in front of our eyes.
SWE was founded in 1950, SHPE in 1974, and NSBE 1975. Donβt let anyone tell you that the lash out against DEI is only coming for new programs implemented in the recent years. As engineers we work so hard to build a world for everyone, so letβs prevent people from destroying what weβve built.
There's a lot of organizations declaring "we're doing this based on legal advice about EOs" going around. As an administrator I always knew that advice is not a mandate. It takes a leader's directive to convert advice to action. Leaders need to be prepared to own that directive AND its consequences.
The government censoring scientists is horrific.
But what is even more horrific is that many non-government scientists and institutions are self-censoring themselves because they are scared of the government and losing funding.
Authoritarianism wins when we comply in advance!

Sorry to repeat myself but: folks at NIH in any capacity, I know this has been a brutal week and if you have anything you'd like to share about what's going on, please DM me for Signal
If youβve been directly impacted by a pause or cancellation of an NIH study session, we @forbes.com would like to talk to you
#TissueTalks are back for Spring 2025! Join us tomorrow, Wed., Jan. 22nd at 3pm EST for a #TissueTalk with Prof. Tal Danino from our very own dept to discuss "Engineering bacteria for cancer therapy."

Chapter 510 teaching artists and volunteers work side by side with educators to provide a safe space and supportive community so Black, brown, and queer youth ages 8-19 can bravely write. Their vision is that they want every young person in Oakland to write with confidence and joy. See a trend π 3/4
What is so exciting about @silentbookclub.bsky.social Oakland and Chapter 510 though, Eleana? Iβm so happy you asked! SBC Oakland is a beautiful βIntrovert Happy Hour,β we bring our books and silently read together. Chapter 510 is a made-in-Oakland youth writing, bookmaking & publishing center. 2/4
So, today has been interesting, but I wanted to share a little community building work Iβve been up to in Oakland since moving back to CA last January!
Iβm cohosting @silentbookclub.bsky.social Oakland and we have our next Meetup this Sunday Jan 26th 1-3pm at Chapter 510 (546 9th St, Oakland) 1/4
Oh Iβm so glad you loved it! I need to find more SF based fiction like it
While we are at it, I am also trying to put together an Immunoengineering Starter Pack, but we don't have enough folks yet to create it. If you're an engineer working on immune-related topics, reach out to me and let me know so we can all find one another.
Hi, me please! I just got here π I missed all the science discourse!
The Biomaterials Starter Pack is continuing to grow - please share with your colleagues!
Self-nominate yourself to the list, we're looking for anyone working or researching within the broad scope of biomaterials either in academia or industry.
