I wrote about the great new memoir Homeschooled, and how unregulated homeschooling hurts vulnerable kids www.theatlantic.com/family/2026/...
The author Stefan Merrill Block was homeschooled for yearsβand when he returned to public school, he was shockingly behind. Olga Khazan on his new memoir, which explores how a lack of accountability can hurt home-educated kids:
In 2025, we trained 1,188 child welfare professionals to recogninzed and prevent child abuse in homeschool settings. Your gift will triple our reach in 2026.
No education modality is free of abuse and neglect; children are impacted in public school and in the homeschool setting. Itβs not an either/or question, itβs a both/and answer. Support our critical work at crhe.org/support-crhe/
We want to hear from homeschool alumni
We're hosting two virtual focus groups to center alumni experience in our new legislative and research work. December 7th, 5-6pm ET. December 15th, 4-5pm ET.
We're founded and led by homeschool alumni and those experiences guide our work. If you are an alumni, consider joining us for a December focus group - youβll be the first to hear about our new legislative and research work and we want to hear what you think is important too. tinyurl.com/CRHEAlumni
"In every state, even in the midst of an ongoing CPS investigation, parents or guardians can withdraw their child from school to homeschool them. In 48 states, a parent can do this even if theyβve been convicted of a crime against a child."
HSLDA is ending Generation Joshua after nearly three decades
Incredible!
We got on the phone with one of the registered child sex offenders who submitted testimony against Illinois' homeschool bill. This is our conversation.
Thank you Tess and Jonah for going to the UN SRSG on Violence Against Children event and advocating for the rights of homeschooled children. Super important work π
Wow this is horrifying
My favorite city, with unbelievably fierce women conversation partners- Berlin knows how to Man Up! Livestream link below, Monday the 17th at 7 pm CET
Pluribus is so good!
I have some thoughts about women - of all ages - leaving evangelicalism. π§΅
First of all, of course they are! I wrote about how women have spent the last two decades (and really longer) calling out alienating, unbiblical evangelical rhetoric and politics. 1/x www.baylorpress.com/978148131893...
YES I canβt stop listening
Yay!!! Congrats!
You got this!!
I do too! Itβs the worst when you know a student used AI but canβt technically prove it, so youβre stuck giving them a good grade anyway. My school has been having a lot of conversations around how we can stop students from using AI without using AI to catch them.
Screen grab of the webpage for the journal article titled, Christian nationalism and ableism in the United States by Andrew Whitehead.
NEW RESEARCH
Americans who embrace Christian nationalism more likely to agree situation f/ people with disabilities is good as it is, disabled people demand too much from rest of society, & there have been enough societal efforts in favor of people w/ disabilities.

Congratulations! You deserve it, great book!
Homeschool advocates cite national data and call for stronger tracking after Johnston County killings, arguing oversight could prevent abuse and fatalities.
This is awesome!!
The first episode of my new series Truly Tradly Deeply is here! We dive into the evolution of the tradwife subculture, how hyper-feminine aesthetics are weaponised by the European far right, and why Phyllis Schlafly was a Lean In Girlboss π

Lots of nonprofits have positions for researchers below a PhD levelβparticularly nonprofits in the education field. Many of my peers have masters degrees and work at nonprofits. I had some research assistant positions at nonprofits before going to grad school.
My day job is working at a women's shelter in DC, and many of our clients are on SNAP. If you're local and can support these women so they can stay fed, the info is here: www.instagram.com/p/DQU7kh3CbKg/
We need grocery store gift cards and shelf-stable food donations!
Itβs so bad. Iβm TAing a couple undergrad classes this semester and so many students turn in AI assignments. The AI will fully hallucinate references that donβt even exist.
