The immediate pause in violence is a good first start, and we should then continue our demands for representation, enforcement, accountability, justice.
The immediate pause in violence is a good first start, and we should then continue our demands for representation, enforcement, accountability, justice.
When โpeaceโ mostly means more troops, more walls, or more surveillance โ thatโs not peace. Thatโs militarism with better PR.
Support and demand more
What do we do when we see an agreement that isnโt just?
We need to embrace the good and demand more.
If a handful of governments, billionaires, or companies stand to profit โ arms deals, mining rights, reconstruction contracts โ youโre not looking at peace. Youโre looking at rebranding for imperialism.
The โSecurityโ Trap
Is there accountability? If severe crimes, including war crimes, were committed โ does the agreement address these? Does it offer methods of accountability?
Red Flags to look out for
Follow the money
What happens when one side breaks the deal? If thereโs no mechanism to hold powerful players accountable, the โagreementโ is just a suggestion for the strong, and a commandment for the weak.
What to Look For
Is everyone actually at the table? If the people most affected by the violence arenโt shaping the deal, it probably wonโt actually serve them.
When world leaders take victory laps for brokering โPeace agreementsโ and โending conflictsโ but the bombs keep falling, borders keep shifting, and people keep dying โ was it ever really peace?
We decided to help out, and offer a beginners guide to peace agreements.
A Beginnerโs Guide to Peace Agreements:
From Gaza, through the DRC to Ukraine weโre seeing โPeace Plansโ proposed by Trump and similar figures.

Powerful words from a protester we interviewed at #COP30: "People cannot eat money. People cannot eat oil." The planet is collapsing while corporations and governments greenwash destruction. Ever increasing military spending is nothing but a part of this logic.
Good news: we found the money for climate action. ๐ฐ๐
Spoiler โ itโs in the military budget. #COP30 #ClimateAction
Weโre back at #COP30 today, this time in the blue zone where specific regulations apply. No country names, currencies or conflicts can be named, accreditation is required to enter the premises, and any protest or action from civil society has to be approved. Securitisationย atย itsย max!
Wars affecting every corner of the globe, military spending at a record high, and 1.5 degrees breached. Our #COP30 preview wonders what, if anything, will be delivered on conflict, climate and militarism. ceobs.org/cop30-what-t...
A tank on the streets of Belรฉm, Brasil, where COP30 started today
#COP30 has officially started, heavily guarded by tanks and military personel. We will report from inside the COP negotiations, as well as from the Peopleโs Summit and the Inidigenous Caucus, where security is understood to mean climate justice, and access to land for those who are its guardians!
"All of the Earthโs systems are connected. This means that in our millions, in our billions, we are all breathing the same toxifying air, while our Earthโs waters and soils are being polluted in ways we cannot yet understand or ameliorate."

In wars, human lives are lost and people suffer โ but our planet does too.
On todays International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict, we want to highlight an article by @wilpf.bsky.social on the ecocide of Palestine and underline their conclusion:
#10PercentForAll #PeaceNotProfit #FeministFuture
At the Womenโs Peace Camp in Brussels earlier this month organised by WILPF and Women in Black, Sahar Vardi of the 10% for All Campaign highlighted how resisting militarization is part of every struggle โ for justice, for workers, for the planet.
Letโs reclaim that 10% for life.
Solidarity means fighting for each other and ourselves.
It's UN #DisarmamentWeek! We're sharing endorsements from our partner organisations.
Today we proudly highlight @LimpalColombia and their strong statement supporting a 10% cut in military spending. Thank you for your support and leadership!
It's UN Disarmament Week, and we're proud to present the endorsement of SERPAJ Paraguay of the 10% for All Campaign.

We demand a 10% cut in military spending, redirecting the freed resources toward tackling climate change, strengthening health systems, combating poverty, and ensuring education and social protection for all.
Meanwhile, German politicians are discussing plans to cut unemployment benefits and development aidโdespite warnings that these measures will deepen poverty.
The manufacturer, Rafael, promotes the rockets as โcombat-proven,โ claiming they โcan be used in urban combat.โ We have already witnessed the devastation caused by Israeli weapons in recent months.
Every euro or dollar spent on Israeli weapons strengthens the capacity for more killing and destruction in the Middle East and beyond.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz had previously banned arms exports to Israel during the g***ide following massive public pressure. Yet, continuing to buy Israeli weapons will further bolster and fund Israelโs militarism.
It also highlights the governmentโs priorities: while โฌ2 billion will be spent on missiles, only โฌ200 millionโjust 10% of that amountโhas been promised as emergency aid for rebuilding Gaza.
The deal exposes the hypocrisy of European leaders.
The โฌ2 billion agreement is one of the largest arms deals in recent years and dwarfs the โฌ315 million Germany spent on Israeli weapons in 2025.
According to Haaretz (zurl.co/luPJu ) , Germany is purchasing Israeli-made Spike anti-tank missiles in a โฌ2 billion deal, even as public services face budget cuts.
Germanyโs latest arms purchase raises serious concerns about spending priorities.
