How we talk about inclusion in higher education shapes who feels invited in. A recent Third Way memo examines equity messaging at a moment when public confidence feels fragile. I think about first-generation students asking if they belong. Language answers that question before policy does.
Burnout in public service rarely starts with individual weakness. It builds when systems demand sustained output without sustained support.
Mental health becomes more stable when organizations acknowledge the weight of the work and distribute it.
Healing burnout requires structural attention.
This validates a belief I’ve long held: emotional intelligence in leadership shapes outcomes.
I've known many great leaders who understood the importance of composure & of earning their team's trust; leaders I try to emulate. Because wherever there's a leader with high EQ, a devoted team follows.
I think about leadership through the stories that shaped me: family history, travel, and small acts of service. Carrying those experiences into policy spaces keeps decisions grounded in real lives and reminds me who the work is meant to serve.
This piece made me rethink how institutions talk about wellness. The times I’ve felt most steady at work came from feeling useful, trusted, and connected to shared responsibility. When wellness is built into how systems function, resilience shows up quietly and holds under pressure.
People trust systems that reflect them, from community partnerships to representation & access. Trust isn't something you have to ask for when programs reflect the people they serve. People will happily to extend it to you on their own.
A new Brookings piece reinforces something I hold closely: education systems strengthen when families and communities are part of the design. When engagement is built early and treated with care, trust grows, schools stay responsive, and students experience continuity through change.
Quiet leadership often carries more weight than visibility. I think about the people who protect public programs behind the scenes and hold institutional memory. Their presence steadies systems through change and helps communities experience continuity, even when leadership shifts.

Diplomacy doesn’t only live in statements or summits. Some of the strongest global relationships grow through cultural exchange and community ties built over time. When people work alongside one another across borders, trust deepens and cooperation becomes something people sustain, not wait for.
Resilience shows up in the relationships that keep systems together during change. It’s the cultural wisdom carried across generations & the leadership pipelines that prepare people for new roles.

This year sharpened how I think about trust in institutions. I noticed where confidence held & where it thinned. I saw trust strengthen through consistency & openness, & weaken when systems felt distant. The daily choices leaders make determine what trust can carry forward.
Equitable pathways can only be built by listening closely & treating identity as an asset rather than a hurdle. We must design programs where students from every background feel like they belong in the room. When leadership reflects the country, systems (& the next generation) thrives.

The 10,000 Interns Foundation shows how opportunity grows when it’s designed with intention. Paid pathways for under-represented graduates reshape who gets to lead. I’ve seen in public service that when access expands, trust expands with it. Inequality was built over time (and so is equity).

UNESCO and the EU are treating gender equality as core public infrastructure. From heritage restoration in Iraq & Yemen to STEM access in Tajikistan & safer digital spaces, these efforts work because local leaders guide the change. Representation builds trust, & trust is what makes progress last.
