This is about all of us. Never forget that.
Our latest episode is up featuring @trevorabranch.bsky.social telling us about blue whales and his latest papers! We so enjoyed this conversation and both of us learned a ton! We hope you enjoy it too.
Also, this is our first episode featuring our new theme music!
A night sky from this last January in Australia. I miss those night time walks.
Booker: "I confess that I have been imperfect. I confess that I've been inadequate to the moment. I've confess that the Democratic Party has made terrible mistakes that gave a lane to this demagogue. I confess we all must look in the mirror and say 'we will do better.'"
I may be tired and a little hoarse, but as I said again and again on the Senate floor, this is a moment where we cannot afford to be silent, when we must speak up.

Two killer whales surface in dark, glassy waters with a forested island in the background.
There was a moment this evening when the whole world was just calm water, two whales surfacing in unison, and nothing greater or less than that.

A female killer whale spyhops next to the towering dorsal fin of an adult male. Itβs gray and overcast and in the distance the outline of a heavily forested island covers the horizon.
It was a cold, wet afternoon but itβs easy to forget about both of those things in the moment when youβre watching wild killer whales. T019 spyhops beside her son, T019B in Boundary Pass yesterday.

A beautiful first weekend back out on the water at home. There are a lot of horrific things happening in the world right nowβbe sure to take a moment for the bright spots where you can.
Not that Iβm aware of!
@orcawatcher.bsky.social and I had an interesting encounter with Biggβs killer whale, T046D, Thursday and it included him vocalizing through the hull of the boat. This video is about the audio. We did not have a hydrophone down. At times he would be 200+ yards away and we could still hear him.
I know how much *I* need this right now. If you feel the same way, I hope you'll join us.
While out on the Silver Bank I didnβt do as much painting as I might have liked to but I did paint one little thing in my sketchbook. #watercolorpainting

My week in thirty one seconds. This curious female calf of known mom, βTWβ, was really intrigued by the aliens in her world. What a privilege.
Heading offline for the rest of the week to spend time in the company of these lovely beings. βοΈ
We got out with J Pod for our 6th encounter of the year! We were able to confirm that J62 is female and document all 26 members! We were also able to confirm that J35 is no longer carrying the carcass of J61. Check out the encounter and more photos at the link below.
No, a humpback whale cannot swallow a human.
This cannot happen and did not happen.
Oh man, Iβm sorry! Iβm glad youβre feeling better.
New paper! Humpback song evolution in the waters of Okinawa. Great to see this out, another #MSc_MMS_St_A Marine Mammal Science MSc thesis published π₯³ congratulations to Ella and Nozomi. ππ¦π§ͺ

Weβll see you soon!!
And if theyβre just using that phrase to guilt someone into helping them or doing something for them then thatβs highly problematic as well.
