When I am made God Emperor, I plan to make sure the design people who decided you only get half a door to the shower area are added to the pile.
Also, it's always a fun day at work when EFF litigators get feisty.
We sometimes joke that Congress/ the companies do weird or shady stuff to see if we are awake and paying attention. Turns out, we are.

I am calling on @icegov.bsky.social Director Todd Lyons to immediately confirm or deny the existence of a βdomestic terroristβ database. If true, youβre violating the Constitution. If not, maybe talk to your βborder czarβ to get your stories straight. This isnβt a gameβitβs the Constitution.
This is a fairly odd PR stop: thehill.com/blogs/in-the...
LISTEN: Those βyear-in-reviewβ insights from your apps might seem fun to see and share, but theyβre a symptom of the surveillance culture that permeates the internet and threatens your privacy, EFFβs @irmck.bsky.social told @KCBSRadio.bsky.social.

It's Giving Tuesday, and thus, I ask for your support. EFF is actually grassroots funded, which is awesome, because that means I get to lobby on behalf of internet users, not internet companies. It's one of the reasons this job is the best. But we do still need money to do stuff, like go to DC.
Just wanted to say this a little louder before I go to bed tonight - there's a lot EFF can do to represent internet users, but when people take the time to also speak for themselves, our message hits a little differently. Keep sending those emails!
Emailing works too, but you have to take the step of finding the website and clicking some buttons. Itβs different for all of them, and I canβt send you to just one website.
Point is: Pick your pain point, and do the thing.
(Telling the internet doesnβt count. Call).
Periodic reminder - if Congress is about to vote on a bill, and you have an opinion about that bill, you should tell your elected peeps directly. Most of us have 3 (sorry, DC), and they donβt coordinate, so you have to tell all 3 yourself.
Call this, and ask to be connected:

Shameless self promotion: Right now in a minute, Iβm speaking on Section 230βs misunderstood legacy at #FutureOfSpeech 2025, hosted by @cdt.org & @StandTogether.
I'm newly back from sabbatical, so I'm rested and extra feisty. Join us!

Shutdowns are always dumb. This one, from the outside, appears to be more dumb than usual.
Math problems are entirely the Speakerβs problem. Full stop.
But if the Republicans donβt negotiate with those Democrats to write a bill that any Democrat actually wants to vote for, the majority has a math problem.
Now, there is a non-insignificant part of the majority party who just hates spending bills and will vote No on anything that requires the government to do its job, so the Republicans have had to rely on some conservative Democrats to get things done.
Caveat: Iβm on sabbatical for a bit, so Iβm not in the weeds at all on the current political situation. However, when one party has unified control of DC, it is absolutely bonkers to blame a shutdown on the minority.
wow it's too bad no one at the ftc ever has done work around algorithmic discrimination in pricing. if only a person (or two??) there had been ready for this future
Hard agree. Plus I love that the dog participates.
Just going to leave this here. Just in case.

Don't spend your money to voluntarily put surveillance devices in your own home.
the future is flying cars that are snitches

Congress is bringing back the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA). It doesnβt protect kidsβit gives government officials power to pressure platforms to take down lawful speech.
The deadline is almost here to vote for EFFβs βHow to Fix the Internetβ podcast in The Webby Awards. Cast your vote today!
No bored immune systems over here!
Unnecessary hills I will absolutely die on - sticking "gate" on the end of something does not mean "scandal related to the thing."
Watergate was the name of the hotel where President Nixon did illegal things. It was not a scandal related to water in any way.
