Reform’s reality check in town halls across the country [FREE TO READ] Plus, green jobs risk derailing insurgent party’s national message

More from me in the coming days on Reform’s first forays into managing public finances

But my general takeaway so far is: they’re saying one thing nationally and doing another thing locally, and that may work for a while yet

Manchester-London 7am train will now carry passengers after outcry over regulator’s decision Avanti service was to be pulled from timetable from mid-December but would have still run because of needs out of Euston The express Manchester-London 7am Avanti service will take passengers after all, after the rail regulator conceded defeat in the face of public outcry over a ruling that would have left it running as an empty “ghost train” each day. The 7am train, the only service linking the cities in under two hours, was set to be axed from the passenger table from mid-December – but would, as the Guardian reported on Saturday, have kept running empty from Piccadilly each day so it could run morning trains back out of Euston. I think point is both Anti-semitism & Islamophobia are clearly significant issues

In Australia people who’d been to the UK had seen the extreme right marching talked about it & worried for us

They didn’t mention Anti-semitism. it’s OK to mention one or other, both equally terrible, & both matter

Labour 'risks losing election to Reform' if it scraps Red Wall council funding plan A Labour local government chief has warned that Angela Rayner's plans to redistribute Whitehall funding to councils in the Midlands and northern England are at risk

Money alone is not the solution to all our ills. But without clear change, those ills will get much worse. A funding settlement that strengthens local government in poorer northern communities - as we have been promised - is essential to that change.

This includes 55% of Reform voters who don’t agree with their party’s new stance.

We are proud of what GM has achieved in the first decade of devolution.👇🏻

But we’ve had to fight for it and every scrap of investment.

Imagine what more the North could be if backed with the same investment in infrastructure as others parts of the UK! 🤔
