A scenic view of Cannon Beach on the Oregon coast, featuring the iconic Haystack Rock rising prominently from the ocean near the shore. The beach is dotted with people walking, playing, and enjoying the weather. The sky is mostly clear with a few clouds, and a dramatic band of fog or low clouds stretches across the horizon over the water. Gentle waves roll in under the soft afternoon light.

The image, provided by Bluesky, says "Celebrating 10M users" and "#54,185". There's also a blue stamp that reads "FIRST 1%".
Bluesky has over 10 million users. I am #54,185.

@bergsbites.bsky.social Yes. Public posts are the default (same as Twitter), plus there's no private option here. Blocking still serves a purpose in that it limits that account from interacting with yours.
Blocks are public here too, which is different and not good in my opinion. Mutes are private.

Hey @pfrazee.com @jay.bsky.team, if the network is intended to be public, why are user profiles and posts currently hidden behind a login wall? Will this be changing anytime soon?
(Sorry for the ping, didn't see this in the FAQ, and don't know where else to ask.)

since this is coming up, I have nothing but appreciation for Mastodon and activitypub. We had another approach we wanted to take and that’s it
it’s pretty normal for folks to root for their communities but it’s not zero sum and we should be rooting for every baby turtle make it off the beach

Sky Bridge
Bring your favourite Mastodon apps and use them with Bluesky!
I'm now hosting a small public instance of SkyBridge on fly.io to let people try it out! If you'd like to try using Mastodon apps like Ivory to get that Tweetbot-ish experience on Bluesky now you can
The bridge password is sunshine123
Please be gentle, I'm hosting this in London on the free tier 😭

On Bluesky "mutes are completely private" but "your block list is public". Why? Seems confusing and potentially harmful.

Important: Similar to your likes, your block list is public data!
While users of the Bluesky app can’t easily find this list now, the data is public and enumerable at the protocol level. This means that third-party apps or clients can surface and display your list.

Yep! 1 bit of information per pixel means on or off, black or white. So there's not even grayscale in this image, just the illusion of it.
8 bits isn't quite 8 colors though. 8 bits is enough to encode 256 colors.

They do strip EXIF. Looks like everything gets converted to a .JPG with minimal metadata attached. This is good. 🔒

If I can "boost a toot" on Mastodon we need something better than "repost" here. I vote "yeet the skeet".

FAQ | AT Protocol
Frequently Asked Questions about ATP
Found the answer to my question in the AT protocol FAQ.
Bluesky has a "goal of having large scale search and discovery (rather than the hashtag style of discovery that ActivityPub favors)."
So, hashtags are not really needed here.

Hashtags not really used here, eh? I see a few here and there, but they aren't clickable, and don't really seem surfaced in the UI. Is this by design for the platform, or just not implemented yet?
