Her beak is hard to see against the bark, but it is roughly the length of her head, helping to distinguish her from her smaller cousin, the Downy Woodpecker.

Saw this first Mourning Cloak yesterday in central Illinois. It was very happy to hang around in the sun and pose for some pics. I was very sad I only had a crummy phone camera 'cause I left my real camera at home. 🤨 🙂

I saw a FOY Rusty Blackbird yesterday. It's springing out there.

Blaustern verschiedener Größe, in einer Wiese, mit teils offener und teils geschlossener Blüte. Teils unscharf. Etwas längere Stengel mit ins lila gehenden Blüten ragen heraus, und sind scharf gestellt. Im Hintergrund helles Grün.
