I mean, doing it the proper way would be preferred - especially considering most of the games will have German and other language variants which most likely include the correct characters. But replacements like these would atleast provide a fast low-effort and correct fix for now?
Not sure how that's in other languages - for German and our Umlaute, there are valid replacements that are correct but do not require extra characters. Replacing Ö by OE, Ä by AE, Ü by UE and ß by ss are valid forms of writing.
