Don't get me wrong, I love The Muppets but it IS a bit of a sausage-fest right?

A group of people sitting in front of a large screen.
A thrill to watch Ken Loach's BREAD & ROSES at the Rio Cinema's 'Films for Workers' series. Passionate, crushing, desperate yet victorious. This one will stay with me. Check the rest of the programme & celebrate workers solidarity on screen at @riocinema.bsky.social βπ½
That final song. Oof. An ode to gospel, a nod to faith & a hark to the origins of soulful Black music in its most giving form. Chills!
Got a real kick from Spike Lee's Highest to Lowest. So thrilling to see living legends at work. Washington, Lee and New York City = one hell of a trio.
Hello, we are glad to now be live on Bluesky! Very excited to connect and keep you up to date with everything going on at the Rio πΏ
So pleased to be asked by Park Circus to curate a monthly film pick from their extensive catalog which is available for screening in the UK and with programme notes from yours truly. First choice drops soon!
Two people kissing while reaching up for a basketball. From the film Love and Basketball

Ashley Walters - who I know to be the coolest bro, like, ever - getting schooled on what emojis mean in Adolescence has really aged me.
Never have I felt so like a 'target audience' than seeing Amandaland's 40-ish single dad / former house & garage DJ who looks great in football shorts.
The opening sequence to Questlove's LADIES & GENTLEMEN 50 YEARS OF SNL is a technical, musical, heart-palpatating act from a god amongst mortals.

SLY LIVES! Questlove salutes the genius of Sly (& the Family Stone) while asking "what is the burden of Black genius?" to those qualified to answer (oh hey, D'angelo!). Mesmerising. Provocative. Frustratingly buried on Disney+
I'll have what he's having.
...plus some fine examples (Liam, Jude, Tom) of male romcom widows suddenly becoming more alluring. Funny that.
"The idea that a widow could simply want connection, fun or just good sex without it being framed as either self-destructive or groundbreaking remains strangely radical". Big fan of Heale's lived observations on our new Bridget.
Got to share some hot takes on who Bridget Jones' boy really is & naturally found some dark romantic comedy in Elia Suleiman's Divine Intervention. What a gem. Ta for having us @lwlies.com π
...I mean, come on. Name a better cast of hilarious UK women.
Biggest take away from Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy?
It's all about the women. Absolute class act.
Love that you're all in Hackney today! Welcome!! Big up to The Castle β
Two people standing outside on a street in front of each other. One on the right wears a yellow jacket. The left, a green jacket. A bridge is in the background.
After decades upon decades of racism, colourism & whitewashing in romcoms, RYE LANE surfaced with a breath of fresh air. Obvs it was the film I chose when asked along to the Made In England podcast. Listen up! π

also enjoyed how BBFC's '18 Strong Sex' rating reduced a cinema full of adults to a bunch of giggling teenagers. Deserved round of applause at the end tho. Sat night audiences are where the real ones are.
Enjoyed my seat in the STD area for BABYGIRL.
...a tonic to somehow landing in middle age, is being old enough to have witnessed the trajectories of stars who can legitimately release a biopic.
If what I dug most from BETTER MAN was the carnivalesque merriment & choreographed splendor of Rock DJ, I'm gonna have to cave & watch THE GREATEST SHOWMAN aren't I?
Just clocked that all the films directed by Nicole Holofcener are around the 90min mark & it's made me love her even more.
Enjoyed this episode!
