"The Ukrainian colleague who walks into her office on the 25th of February 2022 at a Western institution: The professor comes up to her and says, “I am so sorry! It’s just awful! I love Russia so much!”" by @efdavies.bsky.social

OTD in 2015 I admitted that I was lying & that the masked, armed men in Crimea were indeed Russian soldiers.
In doing so I admitted I invaded Ukraine. You had the chance to do something. You chose short term profit. And long term losses
It's not discourse, it's cheerleading and denialism, and it's nakedly transparent whether it's Ukraine, Syria, Gaza or Iran.
One thing I've learnt about conflict investigation in this age of open source evidence is you always see the same lies, just dressed in different uniforms. "It can't be my side that blew up the mosque/hospital/school it's a false flag/errant munition from the other side" with scant evidence produced
Just a reminder it’s been two days since reports came out, later acknowledged by Trump and his Administration, that Russia has been helping Iran to try and kill US military personnel.
And the Trump response so far has been...drum roll please...to reduce sanctions on Russia!
Ukraine marks 212 years since Taras Shevchenko’s birth, as his words still power Ukrainian resistance against Russian aggression.
Got my hard copy of @prospectmagazine.co.uk with my Kyiv diary in it. You can read the piece online (link below), but if, like me--and Mikey, pictured here--you prefer the feel of a printed magazine, pick one up at your nearest newsagent.

The USA has asked Ukraine for weapons to defend against Iranian drones. Zelensky told them to negotiate as they don't have any cards.
Just a matter of time before one of our more putinized Trumpers calls this a "special military operation"
Ukraine's air defense experience is "irreplaceable," Zelenskyy says - after watching Gulf states with stronger systems fail to stop every Iranian drone and missile.
Years of defending against the same Shahed drones Russia uses have given Ukraine expertise no other country has.
Not for nothing, Ukraine is also repelling a small aerial attack involving Shahed drones right now per the country's air force.

You’re asking the wrong question @economist.com, focusing on personalities instead of what russia is
This isn’t “vladimir putin’s tyranny.” It is THE tyranny
You cannot separate moscow from the prison of nations it governs
A state spanning 11 time zones is incompatible with the absence of tyranny
The fact that they want to increase military spending by 500bln but stopped aid to Ukraine and whinge about why Biden sent about 130bln over a few years illustrates how deeply pro-russian the Trump administration is. And hypocritical.

The best hope of forcing Putin to stop his genocidal invasion is to push Russia toward bankruptcy. The $12 trillion partnership deal that is reportedly being negotiated with the US is the exact opposite
Shaheds have become russia’s main weapon of terror against civilians in Ukraine.
Day after day, swarms of these deadly UAVs are launched to kill destroy.
These are no small drones —
this is what they actually look like👇
Thankfully, they can be downed:

More than 100,000 civilians have been killed in wars over the past 18 months. Brutal, genocidal war is returning to the world. Turns out the liberal world order wasn't so terrible.
OTD in 2002 Ukraine dismantled its final Tu-160, supersonic heavy bomber.
Having given up nukes, long range ability to threaten Russia and the entire firing chain, Ukraine was subsequently rewarded with invasion, concern and thoughts & prayers.
