That one person can drag us into a war without consulting or even notifying Congress, or our allies, or fully explaining to the American people why this is necessary, is absolutely bonkers.

Reminder that Congress has the power to stop all of this. Where the hell are they?

I would love for Rustad to sue over this and see what the courts would interpret incapacitation as. I would think it usually would refer to medical or functional incapacitation, and not really a loss of confidence. Would be fun!

All I saw was cheesecake boat and ocean for at least 5 minutes

I don't even have the words to describe the frustration I feel reading this response. I wouldn't have expected anything different, but regardless, it is disconcerting as fuck.

the CBC was founded as a bulwark against US cultural imperialism, to ensure we had canadian news and canadian culture.

there should be a renewed emphasis on that mandate, particularly to stop reporting so much on what happens in the US for eyeballs and ad dollars.

Here’s the bottom line for what’s going on with Grok - if the owner of the website is putting his thumb on the scale hard enough for the chatbot to turn into Goebbels, you should be deeply concerned about what he’s doing to the algorithm that you can’t so easily see, and what it’s doing to you

Always loved the people who are like, "But my ancestors came here the legal way!" and by that they mean they arrived via ratship to an island, a man asked them their name, they were like, "Uh, Jeff... Smith?" another guy said "sure?" and then they became permanent residents of the United States.

I understand your logic, but I think it is really misguided. It feels very much like a betrayal to the people who actually voted for you. Your vote on this is the same as what Colleen Hardwick's vote would have been. I know you did it because it was going to pass anyway, but symbolism matters.

I think BC 2017 still takes the cake since this riding doesn't actually make a difference to whom has overall plurality or a majority! LPC is getting close but this one riding isn't actually going to break it unless somehow there's more last-minute flips.

Some facts about LPC performance under PM Mark Carney’s leadership:

Seats in every province

If you're like most Vancouverites, you probably haven't walked through Shaughnessy in a long time, if ever. Come see what our laws are protecting, allegedly for your benefit, & find out how it got that way.

No he doesn’t. He can’t sit in parliament without a seat but he can still lead the party. If he does stay on likely they’ll ask an MP in a safe riding to step down so he can run there in a by election.

It almost feels unfair how much more fundamentally likeable Carney is than Poilievre. The mother in me almost wants to give him some sort of head start in the debate. Like maybe Poilievre gets to wear a fun novelty sweatshirt.

Alberta, which is a smart movie because it's not like he doesn't already have enough support there. More Alberta votes will help him for sure.

They don’t have to pass any laws to ban it. Just adjust the way Health Canada provides funding to provinces by adding in some new difficult regulations for abortion care. They’ll do it and it’ll be insidious.
