Chelsea buns, I trust.
Thereβs a small book βPre-1841 Censuses & Population in the British Islesβ by Colin Chapman which lists what has survived and where it is held. Also note that Brigham Young University is also running a project: ebic.byu.edu
Placed on a desk is a ceramic puffin, grey pebbles with bands of white quartz, and a collection of miniature vases with a posy of primroses and blue muscari.
On my desk today β¦ and I can smell the scent of the primroses.
New UK bank notes, featuring wildlife. My votes would be:
Otter
Puffin
Comma (butterfly)
Wood anemone (flower)

Medieval Markets & Fairs in England & Wales: remember the excellent dataset published back in 2003? I've given it a snazzy new interface, incorporating various updates which were made following publication.
Separately, I'm working on extending it to 1846...

Itβs so complicated to get a test, at least around here. Initially he booked on in Bury (Lancashire) because itβs easier to rebook once youβre in the system. Eventually he resorted to paying for an app which scans all appointments and automatically books according to the parameters you set up.
Haha - I have a very similar rain-soaked photo. π
Good news to end the evening on; the teenager passed his driving test today!
Grandad (my Dad) says he can now chauffeur him to the pub. Never mind about Grandad, what about his parents? π
I got home just before 8pm - delayed by 70 minutes. Have put in my claim, eaten supper, an hour of TV and now bed. Back into London tomorrow. π€¦πΌββοΈ Hoping it gets fixed overnight, but not holding my breath β¦
Hello #AncestryHour. Iβm currently on a very delayed train home from work. I havenβt watched anything from #RootsTech so far so Iβm keeping an eye on recommendations. Iβve been busy researching Mr Hβs ancestors recently; all from #Cheshire in England, and SO many farmers. Iβve logged >40 farms.
Guilty! π€£
Thanks for taking the time and care to write about this womanβs story so sensitively. Having written about mental illness myself I know how difficult it is to find the right balance.
Having recently attended a short @ihr.bsky.social course in London I recommend this one if itβs your thing. Donβt be put off if about it being a *university* course. My experience was very warm and friendly; so many people from different backgrounds all shared their knowledge and experience.
Iβm in the wrong job! π
It is, indeed, a very beautiful map, and Iβm sure that the cartographer loved their work.
Thatβs good to see. Itβs a little disappointing that the focus of the spending is more on tourist infrastructure than on the garden itself. But itβs so popular I guess that bigger / better car parks and cafes matter. During bluebell season it regularly closes because itβs full.
Thatβs an interesting point. At the great-grandparent level my ancestors are well researched and firmly rooted in their respective localities. Further back things become much harder to disentangle.
Itβs been a good day reflecting on their lives. More than anything, Iβm humbled by the hardships they experienced, and grateful for the opportunities Iβve had. And also profoundly grateful for technological developments that make housework so much easier. #IWD2026
For #IWD2026 I've reflected on the lives of my four great-grandmothers. I wouldn't be here without them all, and their stories have shaped my history. Hat-tip to @afewforgottenwomen.bsky.social for influencing my research! βΊοΈ #Genealogy #FamilyHistory #WomensHistory

The best heritage account excluding @themerl.bsky.social should be awarded to @bucksarchives.bsky.social for their online archive tours. Theyβre such an animated and quirky way of engaging viewers with their collections, and with history more generally.
So sorry to hear that youβve lost Great Aunty Lily. But what an incredible age she achieved. I hope she had a life well lived. I know exactly what you mean about struggling to update your tree. It takes a while to process new information. π₯°
I donβt know how Scotland came to be abbreviated in my post; apologies! You clearly got my meaning. π
It was a great result for Scot. England not so much. π€¦πΌββοΈ #SixNations #Rugby
That website is a treasure trove for information about pubs in Kent! Itβs so valuable for my #OnePlaceStudy.
My Grandadβs favourite sweets were Nuttallβs Mintoes. He always had a small stash in a tin which he kept in the sideboard. I remember being allowed to have one for the car journey home, after visiting. I now own that tin.
*Itβs a Foxes Glacier Mint tin. π€
Iβve just had a spooky moment with some 1891 Census records. Pleased to see some clear, well-formed handwriting for a change, it suddenly dawned on me that Iβd seen this hand before. I checked the first page of the section and there it was: Mr Hβs GGF was the enumerator! #FamilyHistory #Genealogy

I was given the book βThe Hawkhurst Gangβ for Christmas but havenβt had a chance to read it yet.
Those pigs definitely need feeding up. #AbsoluteUnits they are not.
