I don't speak to them about religion or politics much -- it's mostly useless and only ends in argument. Conversations instead focus on daily life, family, friends, etc. This is the only way by which to continue a relationship with them.
It has been refreshing to reconnect with a few others from my childhood who have also evolved. I have always enjoyed these conversations and interactions immensely.
My family -- and my parents in particular -- have remained steadfastly religious and irrevocably attached to the political right.
It's difficult, however, not to have close friendships from my childhood, as everyone I knew was from the church. Nonetheless, my social network now has almost no day-to-day connection to the individuals I knew prior to leaving my home town. For me, physical distance has been a necessity.

Why would we hand large tax cuts to the highest earners when it will only end up further accelerating the growth of our national deficit?

Clearly, the stench of authoritarianism thoroughly permeates the act of a world leader holding a military parade on his birthday.
Reason #1 (of many) why New Yorkers SHOULD NOT RANK ANDREW CUOMO in the primary election for mayor on June 24. He's another bro -- along with Eric Adam -- who doesn't think the rules apply to him.
The rules apply. Full stop.
Our democracy is on the line. Let's get out there.
