Really enjoyed this thesis and our conversation that afternoon. Congratulations, Francesca! (A fascinating study of coral and its uses in long 17th c Britain!)
Great news! Wishing all the best on the long road of recovery.
love the notebook. Congratulations on your accomplishments. But do not love the constant monitoring to which you are subjected.
the other comments suggesting man at arms for security or place in France are also interesting.
that is my modernised summary of yours? xij = roman numerals. d = denier = penny.
12 deniers paid to that man in Harnes at midsummer

Careful with any brewing and sipping.
I can think of many words and gender critical is not on that list.
Bluesky, help me find a book please!
I seem to recall coming across a book about the economics or politics or something (?) of end-user license agreements in modern life. Does this ring any bells?
congratulations!!!
Excited to be speaking at the IHR Food History seminar on 12 February 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm.
Book a place to hear about cheesemaking and womenβs dominance of the dairy in early modern England.
Online via Zoom so no real cheese this time Iβm afraid.
it is the aesthetics of fascism. Idelology rather than religion?
Utterly unhinged, though I am guess if he hadn't decided that was a problem, it would have been something, anything else.
Just started doing new data analysis and I know I keep saying this, but: I really, really don't think people appreciate how much this moral panic was a deliberate and extremely expensive invention.
This made me so angry. Glib assumption that the liberal critique is only about nostalgia with no real understanding of the historical movements. Also seems to have drunk some of the koolaid in terms of seeing how fresh and new it all is π
With that in mind, please remember that @nursingclio.bsky.social has an ongoing 'breaking news' series. If you are also a pissed off feminist with thoughts on the Epstein files, pitch us. nursingclio.org/write-for-us...
Inspired by the #BSECS2026 talk on the fabulous "Three Thousand Dishes on a Georgian Table, 1788-1813" data compiled by @historybeagle.bsky.social and team, I pulled together this website:
threethousanddishes.hubers.org.uk
It is such a fun dataset to explore!

I also like the highly unrecommended turn of phrase.
Hey, do you know a grad student who's written a good history of medicine paper? Suggest that they submit it for the AAHM Shryock prize. histmed.org/shryock-medal/ Deadline extended to 15 Feb.
It makes me think of my father, who now has alzheimers, always making that lemonade on hot days or that orange juice for breakfasts. Also something that seemed eternal.
if only... π€
π imagine the carry-on challenges.
π you cannot take all the books, however much you want to, as you have to factor in carrying a heavy bag as you get more and more knackered.
you need to factor in naps and food, plus moving between one thing and another. How long will be spent sitting still?
OED dates it back to 1541 and with uses indicating digestion/concoction. Continued into late 1880s.
Very interesting article on privies, sanitation, and disease in urban England, c 1870-1920s. And flies. (@juliehardwick.bsky.social might be of interest to you, though a bit later?)
Congratulations, Justine! π₯³
What might help PGRs and what can they request? What can supervisors suggest? So much left to conversations between supervisors and PGRs, but it is risky to depend on individuals and individual agreements.
