War is always “The Unwanted.” In these terrible times, I want to share a translation of a dark, ironic poem by Rosa Jamali, "Poem of War and Canned Goods," published in the latest issue of Interim. Many thanks to Claudia Keelan and the Interim staff.

Come watch Mehrjui’s The Pear Tree at the Mizna Arab Film Fest Tulsa. The festival uses the term “Arab” in its title, even though Mizna has already embraced the broader Southwest Asian and North African region, which includes Iran. That limitation, however, doesn’t take away from the great lineup.

Chatrang by Anima Ehtiat - Words Without Borders
Iranian artist Anima builds an avant-garde piece involving a game of chess, a Shakespearean sonnet, mysterious instructions, and the Jiroft script.
A multilayered work by interdisciplinary artist Anima, in which the instructions for an alternative chess transform into visual poetry and musical pieces. Many thanks to Words Without Borders.

I'm a big fan of AGNI and very happy to see the translation of Fereshteh Sari in their new issue. Sari was one of the few poets to use simple observation and imagery to depict the Iran-Iraq War’s impact on ordinary citizens. Thanks to Bill Pierce & Shuchi Saraswat.

This is from Pamenar Online Magazine, but not in the way we ever wanted to share.
Parnia Abbasi (2002–2025), a young Iranian poet, was killed with her family in a brutal Israeli strike on Tehran.
We honour her voice.
Do not stay silent.
