Narratively this makes sense because the MC should be the one who resolves the main conflict of the game (killing the big bad). And the support roles become your supporting characters.

Consider a typical single person JRPG. Even if you have a team the MC is most often the primary damage dealer.

I am missing something you are trying to communicate or we are interpreting each other in correctly. I can assure you that any misunderstanding is not deliberate but the result of me being rather thick sometimes.
I bought this icecream for the chocolate chips because I like chocolate chips sprinkled into my ice-cream. However I was disappointed to find that the chocolate chips were not present. This ice cream as a chocolate chip enjoyer is bad to me.
Why is that embarrassing? People enjoy different aspects of a medium. Art is inherently subjective and joy comes from all sorts of places.
If they are critiquing they are basically saying “If this is not the experience you want then don’t play this game”. I think it is totally fair that people guide others to the media that they wish. They are trying to make it easier for others to find that other media.

Here is my hypothesis. The author wants to portray the antagonist in the worst light. Japanise culture considers working to help the group good (yes all cultures do but collectivist cultures like JP more so). The audience know from MMO experience the strength of support.
