Absolutely agree! If Maine can do it, why can’t CA? A few months ago, Newsom was threatening to do just that, but I don’t know if he was serious. If the feds don’t send CA the funds we have been awarded—and paid into—what other recourse is there?

Hey Gov Newsom, a few months ago you threatened to withhold California’s federal taxes as a response to Trump’s threat to defund the state. Are you working on a plan to withhold fed tax money in an escrow account until we get the promised funding?
If Maine can do it, why can’t California?
I recommend Substack! Great social media alternative.
So far anyway, Substack seems to be a pretty good social media forum.
There is no cap on the length of posts. You chose who you want to follow and/or subscribe to (most have free options). Not many trolls, and they can easily be blocked.
News flash! It remains to be seen if health insurance companies will pay for vaccinations that are recc’ed by state-level health departments but not by the US CDC.

Yes, CA DPH can buy the vaccines and distribute them to us, as long as the FDA does not take them off the market. I was reading on Substack that the NE states are planning to stockpile what they need. West Coast states should do the same. CA DPH can lead the way!
Link to a recent informative interview between the founder of the CalExit movement (Marcus Evans) and the new communications director (JJ Aimes). A clear explanation of the goals of the movement, even if complete independence is not achievable.

Envisioning a Bold New Future for California
A peaceful, legal, democratic path to California independence is possible, with the approval of a majority of CA voters and the consent of the other states.

Correct. CA doesn’t want to be accused of a “first strike.” But we must show TX and other Red states that their actions have consequences.
If NPR and PBS can manage to stay afloat with private donations and corporate sponsorships, wouldn’t that give them more journalistic freedom to criticize Felon 47 and his MAGA administration? Enough of the “both sides” crap!
Perhaps more funding is required for more police training in US?
If California can pass a nonbinding vote for independence, it might encourage other states to do so, too. The NE states and perhaps others, also have an independence movement. Ultimately, the independent states could form a coalition, like the EU.
All countries that have been threatened, bullied, and harmed by Felon 47’s draconian tarriffs should boycott the FIFA World Cup games in the US. All matches can be moved to Canada and Mexico, who are already preparing to host some matches.
Christian belief embraces the concept of “forgiveness,” at least for those trespassers who repent and do penance for their “sins.” Apparently remorse and forgiveness are both in short supply in the Middle East.. But then, remorse generally does not prevent re-offending, does it?
Isn’t there something in the Bible about how punishment for a crime should be in proportion to the harm caused? “An eye for an eye…” etc? Not 50,000+ deaths in retaliation for ~1200 deaths?
There must be a better way to solve this horrendous situation.
Are you suggesting that Alberta and California somehow swap their national allegiance? Interesting idea, but it must be done democratically.🤔
Meanwhile this website has a link to an online petition that ppl can sign to show support for CalExit and put pressure on the CA Legislature to form the study commission.
Hike, the deadline has passed for gathering signatures on the current petition. But the organizers have re-filed the same petition with the CA SOS. They are confident that the request will be approved for circulation in August.

Some people point to the phrase “with the consent of the other states.” If the CA independence petition gets as far as needing consent of the other states, those details would likely have to be worked out in SCOTUS. But, if that fails, CA may be able to use the leverage for more autonomy.
It’s pretty simple really— Raising a child costs a LOT of money, unless you have a large extended family to help with childcare so both parents can work to support the family. Absent that, how can anyone affortd to have a family nowadays?
Ouch! Listen to this clip for Canada’s response to tRump’s threat of 35% tarriffs on Canadian steel and other goods.

Seems to me like a slam-dunk case of criminal negligence. Unless those county officials have given themselves “immunity” from prosecution, like their dear leader.
Did they accept the ARPA funds? Were there any strings attached?
Can those TX officials be held criminally liable?
What leverage would California have to negotiate such terms?
If Californians vote for independence but it doesn’t get approval by a majority of the other states, might there be some kind of compromise whereby Cal gets autonomy over certain aspects of self-governance? (Like Scotland vs UK)
However, even if Californians voted for it, and a majority of the other states approved, DT could declare an emergency and send in the troops to take over Sacto. At that point would/could other countries come to our defense?
The Texas v White decision says nothing about legal mutual separation needing POTUS’ approval—only approval from the other states. I’m not so sure DT would object to Cal leaving the union—we seem to be a thorn in his side.
Good point.
