11. Kรคthe Kollwitz, Self-Portrait (1921)
Argh, life got too much. 10. Vermeer, Woman Writing a Letter, c. 1670.
I had cause to look up the wonderful (to my mind) talks from our Living a Good Life in Older Age conference (6+ years ago now ๐ฎ) today. Do check them out if you missed it and are interested. So many rich interdisciplinary perspectives. m.youtube.com/watch?v=-rwJ...
Has anyone (have any hundreds) talked about Trump tilting at windmills yet?
So far the "Board of Peace" is Trump, Orban, Lukaschenko and Netanyahu.
Which if you wrote in a satire would be considered too outlandish and sent back.
Oh no. Such an illuminating scholar and influence at least indirectly when I was more directly engaged in โlanguage studiesโ โ but her work resonates in and under so much (in life and work). RIP.
One of my most revered scholars of age and lit sent me a generous and perceptive email about my work and it has totally changed my relationship with and ability to progress on my book (though that wasnโt what she was talking about). Tell people what their work means to you. It is transformative.

Sooooo great to hear (though unsurprising!) on both counts. You (all) rock! Canโt wait to hear more (though no rush of course!).
9. Kajita Hanko, Grudge Borne on a Spring Evening (1902). [okay, mostly for the title!]
Well thatโs excellent. Except now I am too interested to go to sleep.
This has been my last year, โfinishingโ (i.e. seeming to start writing all over again) the putative book. Hope the former is now predominating.
8. Kasimir Malevich, Taking in the Rye (1911).
7. Howard Hodgkin, Learning about Russian Music (1999).
So wish I could be there. Hope itโs ace! As it will be, with you all involved.

Back en route to Regensburg, for "Samuel Beckett: The German Room", a one-day conference with some absolute mega legends in attendance: thee Megan Girdwood on Beckett & Dance, maestro Feargal Whelan on Beckettโs Landscapes, and Legend of all Legends Sarah Jane Scaife on Beckett, Women & Inis Oirr.
6. Van Gogh, La Berceuse. Portrait of Madame Roulin.
What is the word for having excessively modest expectations of something (e.g. a stage of life)? If there is one. 'Conservatism' doesn't quite work. What am I thinking of? (If anything.)
This is such a great collection of Beckettโs art choices. Bringing a lot back to me!
