Today Health Minister Simeon Brown wouldn’t say whether he thinks abortion is healthcare.
Requested our library to buy this some months ago - it just arrived yesterday. Very excited to read this new book from Sophie Strand. One of my favourite writers and an excellent inspiration with regards to weaving ecology, myth, life, somatics and more into beautiful lyrical essays and books.
So excited to have come across this book - it's on my list to order once I get paid for some upcoming work.
Two large oak trees beside a rural road, with paddocks behind. There are small mountains in the distance and the sky is pastel evening colours.
A photo of Tūīs altar. There is a lit salt lamp, a vine extending across the table, several black and white photographs, some rocks and pieces of wood, acorns, hazelnuts, and two small dog figurines. On the shelf underneath there are some dark green pumpkins just visible.
Just went for a ride with Skye to Three Oaks and collected a few acorns. Also collected 9 hazelnuts when I got home (Conla's Well and the salmon of knowledge, anybody?) all added to my altar - a mix of mainly seasonal things and ancestors. Spot the peeking pumpkins underneath 😅
Love a good low stakes saga. Let me know what happens in episode two! The benefits of small town living is that this sort of thing here is usually asked on the community noticeboard and all sorted within about an hour 🤣
Wow what a dream. I'd love to have you design a book cover for me. Now I just have to write it 😅
If you are a NZ author, I urge you to check the LibGEN database to see if your books have been scrapped by Meta. If so, the NZSA is collecting names (and book titles) in preparation for an international class action lawsuit. #NZWrites #WritingCommunity authors.org.nz/books-scrape...
Two small rocks are balanced one atop the other, both on another larger rock. There is a river in the blurry background

Excited for this!
A good reminder! I made an account last year but didn't keep it up, I do want to do more reviewing though so will reinvigorate my profile!
From the vibes of her other books/series, I think I'll be enjoying quite a number 😃 I say vibes as I haven't actually read full blurbs, just saw some snippets when I was looking this one up

I've only just started but I think I'll be reading this whole series! Astounded I somehow hadn't heard of this book or author until last week.

This is my Very Handsome Dog, Skye. She is a Blue Heeler x, loves licks above anything else, then tug, then fetch. Recently learnt to swim and has been enjoying her new fun activity
New to this land of Bluesky. Seeking quality accounts to surround myself with... author, writer, poet, dog lover, ADHD, AuDHD, folklore, mythology, adventure, tramping (that's hiking), walking, biking, journey, pagan, druid, songlore, connected ancestry, decolonisation, liberation, qi gong, yoga...
This is very neat, thanks for writing and sharing! We were just talking about death ritual yesterday on a course I'm part of, so it feels very timely! I wasn't sure where Shropshire was (I live in NZ), so googled and found some of my ancestors were from that area, of course
I don't really have a ritual, but I'm trying to build one! The closest thing to ritual at the moment is when I decide to write, I often make myself a cup of tea, set it on the desk in front of me, and don't drink it 😅
