Concentration camps are the defining issue in public health right now. Measles and TB outbreaks, healthcare being withheld as punishment for your race. It is not enough simply to turn the grants tap back on. To do so would make us the same as the Nazi scientists who discovered smoking causes cancer

State vaccine requirements for school entry are absolutely essential if we have any hope of maintaining herd immunity.

It is madness for states to repeal these requirements. And vaccine exemptions should not be permitted unless for a documented medical contraindication.

Armadillo projection - Wikipedia

When animals like hedgehogs, pangolins and potato bugs (AKA rolly pollies or sow bugs) curl up into a defensive little ball it's called "Conglobation." Because they roll up into a cute little globe.

In related news, here's an Armadillo Projection map: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armadil...

Viruses with human-to-human transmission are, by definition, not personal. Refusing measles vaccine is choosing to endanger those around you. β€œMedical freedom” is just a way for anti-vaxxers to sell their message in a society that values the choice to be unvaccinated over the choice to be unexposed.

A bright spot amidst all the public health doom and gloom: we're getting closer to a Guinea worm-free world

Our very beloved President Carter was a key leader in the fight against Guinea worm

2025: 10 cases 🀯

Minneapolis Patients Avoid Care, Say They Feel 'Hunted' by ICE, Doctor Says 'Birth doesn't feel as beautiful and as happy as it did before,' says an obstetric nurse

Minneapolis patients are avoiding medical care because they feel hunted by ICE. Masked & armed ICE agents have been seen inside & around the city's hospitals. Even U.S. citizens, if they have an accent or worry that they look like someone ICE might target, are fearful of seeking medical careπŸ‘‡

Just because Wall St is humming doesn't mean the US economy hasn't crashed. We've lost wealth of + infrastructure to produce knowledge. People can't just wait 4 years. The damage can't easily be undone at home and abroad the trust is gone. It's heartbreaking.

Don't forget how bad prisons and other types of detention centers are for both public health and long term well being off detainees.

Add in ICE quotas and you've got innocent people and communities exposed. It's sickening. Literally and figuratively.

I've gotten a question from a friend worried about Nipah.

Nipah virus, while very serious, does not transmit easily between people. Nothing so far suggests that has changed. Officials in India particularly are used to containing small outbreaks like these.

No need to panic.

Add to it the rapid recent increases in AMR and we could find ourselves in the same situation we were in a century ago, losing many more lives - especially children's - from both primary and secondary infections than COVID took.

So this interview lasted 2 hours so this β€œyou’re scaring me” part might seem like an overreaction or fearmongering to someone without that context.

There’s a lot of evidence to support my hypothesis that a potential H5N1 pandemic would be worse than COVID.

Just under half of all infections are now resistant to antibiotics.

Not the time to reduce funding for science and health.
