The sidecar was delicious and a great night was had by all! (Well me anyway.)

I was the kiwi at the bar who had read your books! Very surprised to hear what she was reading.
This is amongst the most impactful two minutes of broadcasting Iβve ever seen.

Want to bring back manufacturing to your country? Read this... once again the world is just so much more complex that politicians believe. I don't agree with all the opinions within, but there's a lot here that is important. www.molsonhart.com/blog/america...
More disturbing stories about the detention centres. Among them, there was a couple in Canada taking selfies at the Peace Arch border. They accidentally strayed across the boundary and were taken into custody.
Map showing large lagoon that was drained after 1931 Napier earthquake.
Iβm assuming thereβs a reason this land hasnβt been built on before now - is it the fact that it was a lagoon before the earthquake?
Homer Simpson in an astronaut suit, on the phone. Captioned THE ENTIRE DAY, I KEPT SAYING, "I'LL submit A LITTLE LATER. I'LL submit A LITTLE LATER." AND THEN IT WAS TOO LATE
You can still submit on the Treaty Principles Bill up until 11:59pm
It's better to submit something, even just a few sentences, than nothing

hey if youβre not following the vergeβs @sarahjeong.bsky.social (a mistake on your part tbh) she is on the ground posting from the national assembly in south korea rn bsky.app/profile/sara...
Great description of the rush to the National Assembly. That lawmakers made it there before the military may end up being the key to martial law ending

1. Iβm thinking aloud here, as I really donβt have the answers. This is a thread about the political challenge of the very large numbers of young men now supporting the far right. Iβm writing it without blame or derision. Iβm just trying to find a way through. π§΅
I think itβs incredibly difficult for parents. And unless groups of parents in schools/communities band together to limit childrenβs access to phones & social media, monitor gaming etc, the pressure on kids and then parents to be online with all their friends is extremely difficult to withstand.
Kids are less exposed to traditional tv and books with more empathetic social norms than before. Many parents are too busy working, too stressed and on their own devices too much to counteract or even be aware of the influences their kids are exposed to.
As a teacher of 9 - 13 year olds, it is obvious at that age which students have empathy and which donβt. Boys especially spend many hours on YouTube and online gaming, exposed to a lot of racist, sexist, bragging content. I think those with less developed empathy are pulled to far right content.
Video is worth watching

βBut the biggest change was in our boys. They no longer had to be dragged out of bed; they woke up early, excited to plan their routes & meet friends, arriving at school full of energy and ready to learn. The transformation was remarkable.β
Worth a read.

A MATTER OF PRINCIPLES
Misinformation about the Treaty of Waitangi, its language and its intent is at the centre of the Treaty Principles Bill introduced to Parliament this week. #nzpol
the arc of the moral universe could be a bit shorter imo
This is the most powerful closing message
Since its first election in 1853 New Zealand has been world-leading in voting rights. All MΔori men were able to vote from 1867 and all European men from 1879. In 1893 New Zealand became the first country in the world where women were able to vote in national elections. TeAra.govt.nz
The first federal vote in which women were able to participate was the 31 October 1971 election of the Federal Assembly. However it was not until a 1990 decision by the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland that women gained full voting rights in the final Swiss canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden. Wikipedia
Why no New Zealand or Switzerland? Arenβt they the first and last countries where women gained the right to vote?

Thereβs a story about Dunedin protest in NZ news section if you scroll about 12 stories down. Guess itβs regarded as yesterdayβs news unless someone does something newsworthy or they decide to do an investigation. www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/3504...
