painting of a mixed-breed dog walking on the boardwalk stepping on the black stripes, there are several crabs on the beach sand and cats taking a bath in the sea and in the background, a balloon in the sky
dog walking on the promenade stepping on the stripes of the same color because if it steps on the stripes of the other color something horrible will happen
After thousands were killed in a brutal crackdown on anti-regime protests in Iran in January, Mandana gave up hope for reform from within. She came to the conclusion that the Islamic republic's leaders had to go even if it meant US and Israeli-led regime change. So when the two countries attacked the compound of supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on February 28, killing him and several of his family members, Mandana β who like others interviewed used a pseudonym - believed the change she coveted had finally come. Her experience in the terrifying days since has shattered that belief. Air strikes have targeted not just military sites and senior regime figures but have repeatedly hit civilian infrastructure. Over the weekend, Tehran was enveloped in toxic black smog after Israel bombed fuel depots around the city; on Tuesday, massive explosions caused widespread blackouts. "We weren't supposed to be bombed," Mandana said, her voice trembling after a massive explosion near her apartment by Vanak Square in central Tehran. "Our city, our country, this wasn't supposed to happen. How is it that Venezuela... saw clean, bloodless regime change, but not here?"
The majority of Iranians who see the January killings as unforgivable are lost over how to push for change. This includes Sara, a teacher in her forties who once hoped for the regime's overthrow but now admits she has changed her mind. "I've come to terms with the bitter reality: the Islamic republic is resilient," she said. "I never thought I'd say this, but if someone from within the regime becomes a real reformer, why not? In the end, we just want peace and welfare. Marjan, a housewife, could not hide her emotions when news of Khamenei's death broke. She had believed it would usher in the regime's collapse. "Now I wonder, even if the Islamic republic falls, what will we inherit: a land in ruins?"
A really harsh lesson here for anyone anywhere on Earth who might have been inclined to believe the white-people democracies are deeply concerned about their freedom, their wellbeing and their ability to lead a normal family life free from e.g. rivers of exploding fuel running past their houses.
remember three weeks ago when europe was saying they would no longer be america's toadies
Drone strikes in Haiti.
Drone strikes. In Haiti.
By private contractors.
Theyβre killing Haitians for private profit & the world barely pays attention.
The story of Haiti is the story America likes to tell about itself. Except there, itβs true. And the west has never stopped punishing Haiti for it
this quote got x100 funnier once I realized it was Ezra Klein platforming her lol

what if, bear with me, we realize this now and instead of trying to fix it all, we focus on beating their knees in to such a degree they can't win an election for entire generations
Three panel comic. Panel 1: a giant squid wearing a yellow Bart t-shirt and some terrible hypebeast shorts is looking in the mirror. It says, βneed groceriesβ¦ but all my clothes are in the laundry.β Panel 2: the squid, now also wearing hot pink crocs, exits its apartment and says, βeh. I wonβt see anyone.β Panel 3: two fisherman are pulling the squid to the surface of the water and pointing at it. An overlayed news caption reads: RARE SQUID SIGHTED - the fit was crazy
Funding for this essential birth control and repro health program expires on April 1. But HHS hasn't even sent out the GUIDANCE that groups need in order to apply for the next round. That was supposed to happen by the end of 2025 π

New app idea AlligatorMotivation.com you sign up if there's something you need more motivation to do (there's a small fee). Then, if you don't do it, an alligator will eat you.
Tweet by me (Dec. 11, 2017): "It is my great honor to publish the first EVER translation of rupi kaur into Bach's Goldberg Variations recorded by Glenn Gould (1955)"

Well, people in hell want ice water. Leviticus 11:12 forbids ice water. Those who are punished for drinking ice water in life will still want it after death.
Actually technically in most cases if you got shocked to death by electricity you wouldn't be "electrocuted." You would be "electrogrossed."
But not for my delightful followers! You would be electrocuted! π₯°
They spent your tax money on killing children. I think it's worth us spending our tax money prosecuting and punishing them all. No one will argue against it. It is a popular stance. Don't be a pussy. Stand up for those girls who were killed in our name.
I really like the alien glitchcore shit LLMs produce when asked to introspect and produce visualizations of what it's like to be an LLM.
It's probably too early to say for sure, but this might be the only truly novel/interesting type of LLM art.

They should make statelessness a punishment for just like any crime. Oh you jaywalked? Citizenship revoked. Did you know there's no enforcement mechanism for your rights under the convention on refugees?
What is common knowledge in your field but shocks outsiders?
Sometimes you see a beautiful yellow apple and it makes you feel a lot of things, it makes you think about your girlfriend
Bob Balaban, probably on the Good Wife or something. He's standing in a fluorescent-lit tiled hallway, wearing a brown jacket, green tie askew, holding an enormous coffee cup, and looking at the camera like there's someone extremely stupid near it.
Apparently Gemini is not allowed to create a mashup of your friend's baby with iconic TV lawyer Bob Balaban.
Based on car culture and gun culture, I expect consumer humanoid robot culture to be really fucked up
Life is just a meaningless sequence of random cosmic injustices

I'm pretty sure I found out about "slicers" from the Timothy Hahn Admiral Thrawn books before I ever encountered the term "hacker." I may have thought "slicer" was the real word for a while. Also think I learned the word "motherfucker" from William Gibson, although he's in a race with Cyprus Hill.
I spent 45 minutes trying and failing to convince a full bird Colonel with multiple Afghanistan and Iraq deployments that Afghanistan is not an Arabic speaking country. I was helped in this discussion (to no avail) by two Afghan interpreters who were more polite than I was.
How many times does somebody in power have to re-learn that the Islamic Republic is resilient and maintains a coherent, organized social base and that, when existentially threatened, would execute on its *extremely well understood* military strategy?
