Out with our gritters prepping for winter!
I have to confess Iβm not entirely convinced by Kenyaβs approach to LTN 1/20.
Riiiight. Greenways = aimed at rural already coming in to Cam, Quiet lanes aimed at rural areas in general, every new AT route funded though last committee outside Cambridge. I know you love to complain but you might want to look at what is happening.
Really proud to have joined and spoken at the first Kidical mass in Cambridge! Literally hundreds of people riding through the streets showing their support for safe routes to schools.
Have you read the piece?
I used to really support the idea of unitary councils but I I'm becoming more and more worried about LGR. It's being pushed solely for cost cutting, giving little to no thought as to how to improve services for residents. All it seems to be achieving is earning some consultants a lot of money!
The majority of roadworks are by third parties not by the county council. Theyβre obviously not our subcontractors.
Quite simply there is no law to enforce that. The best we can do is implement lane rental where we charge them by the day. I still find it amazing that the permit fees for the gas works on Hills Road are the same as for a tiny job. Saying and empty site doesnβt always mean nothing happeningβ¦
Why are there so many roadworks in Cambridgeshire? Each year we approve about 32,000 streetworks permits, outright refuse about 15% and send another ~30% back with conditions. With a growing city like Cambridge though it never stops and each year we get more and more!

Is it me or is Farage just like AI? Full of self confidence and, to a lot of people, sounds plausible and intelligent. In reality though itβs usually utterly fabricated and often made up. Oh it also gets a ton of press and consumes a monumental amount of energy.
Honest question here- Why do we not allow Asylum seekers to work, holding the money in bond pending the outcome of their case? If their case fails the state keeps the cash, if they are allowed to remain they have a little nest egg to get started as productive members of society?
Starting on the 11th, Cambridge will be moving to virtual residents and visitors parking permits. Welcome to the future!
Doesn't seem to be there any more. π
Sometime between Friday and today so that would track! Bit of a trek from here but could be possible. Anybody know if itβs still there???
Feel like a true Cambridge resident now. Just had my bike stolen π if anybody sees it please let me know!!
Built in 1842 Cambridge Corn Exchange. Designed by Richard Reynolds, itβs really hard to get a good view of it in all its Gothic glory. #cambridge #blackandwhite #architecture
Great to have our first Lib Dem Cambridgeshire county council group meeting today. Really pleased to say Iβve been elected to stay on chairing highways with Robin as my vice chair. Only problem with so many of us is that itβs difficult to get a good group photo!
Back for another term. Thank you to everyone who helped, supported and voted for me. Let's get this county moving πββοΈπ΄ββοΈπππ
Well thatβs interesting. Just seen a self driving car testing in Cambridge.
This is massive. Lorna is now the stopthetories.vote tactical vote choice. What we've been saying all along, if you don't want a Tory mayor, it's Lorna you need to vote for.

So let me get this right, now a transgendered man, even one who has undergone surgery and has a penis, will now be forced to use a woman's loo and be treated on a woman's ward in hospital? This is madness.
Found this pretty spot on.

Just wait until they try to refactor it!
9/n One more thing, pothole filling is also usually considered a revenue activity and the new funding is capital. As such I'm pretty sure we're not actually allowed to use this extra money on filling potholes anyway...
8/n So in summery, judging maintenance standards by the number of potholes filled is idiotic. I have no idea if filling lots of potholes is considered good or whether preventing them all and having few to fill is considered the goal? If somebody in DfT or government knows, please spill!
7/n Nationally, the Asphalt Industry Alliance puts the backlog at Β£17bn so it's going to take a LOT of government cash to get things back on track. The extra Β£0.5bn the gov is putting in will be well received but it's a fraction of what's needed
6/n Those years in decline though have taken their toll. In Cambridgeshire we now have a backlog of > Β£600m+ to get back to a good, stable state. To put that into context we have a record capital maintenance budget this year of Β£59m. This isn't going to be quick.
5/n It's tempting to think you need to get better at filling potholes but really you need to get back into resurfacing, preventing them in the first place. In Cambridgeshire, last year was the first year in recent memory that we've been out of managed decline. Something I'm very proud of.
