What do you research? My research looks at how Chinese learners of English understand regional UK accents, with a particular focus on West Yorkshire English.  I am especially interested in how unfamiliar accent features affect speech intelligibility and word recognition, and why some accents remain difficult to understand even after months of exposure.

What approach do you take in your research? I use controlled listening experiments to investigate how Chinese English Foreign Language (EFL) listeners perceive and recognise words spoken in West Yorkshire English.  By focusing on naturally occurring accent features, the study aims to capture the kinds of listening challenges learners face in real academic and social settings, rather than idealised or standardised speech.
