A fossil of an arthropod preserved on a beige rock. The animal is seen in side view, with its body armed upwards. Large limbs, including a broad paddle, are preserved on the underside of the head. The first three segments of the body are fused together with a single large plate on the underside.
For the first #FossilFriday of the year, here is an undescribed Ordovician chasmataspidid from Manitoba, Canada. Referred to as a eurypterid in publications, the species looks very similar to Hoplitaspis, which is known from contemporaneous rocks in Michigan. ⚒️🧪
