A great start to the @wifaustralia.bsky.social work-in-progress seminar on 'French Women Writing Environment in the Long 19th century', led by @christiesmbc.bsky.social & Daniel Finch-Race!
Theyβre cutting German, Italian and Portuguese completely π’
Sort of good but mostly not. They still want to close 3 languages completely. And teaching-only contracts at basic starting salary grade 6, no research-led teaching, no culture/hist/lit modules on lang degrees. No confirmation on how many T&R in MLANG to be saved.

After the deliberations, the students nominated their winner and then attended the presentation ceremony at the French Ambassadorβs residence. I was so proud of our students' enthusiasm and amazing input!
Last week, I accompanied 2 Cardiff students to London for the Choix Goncourt programme. With students from 14 other UK universities, they discussed the 4 French novels nominated for the Prix Goncourt.
I'm horrified by Cardiff's VC here:
βthe idea that Wales cannot be global without modern languages, I'm less clear aboutβ.
This reveals an appalling lack of understanding of Modern Languages research across the UK, not just in Cardiff

Absolutely wonderful and passionate discussions going on this morning in my 2nd year French class around issues of paritΓ©, women in politics, feminism, political representation, and EDI.
To Cardiff UEB: learning languages is always so much more than learning vocabulary.

Completely stop modern language degrees altogether

Very excited that this New Year is starting with the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion guidelines for PGR Supervision resource that I recently created being shared by the Directors of PGR across the Schools of the University, and within the Inclusive Education Project team as well.
Studying Francophone identities with students this year, focusing on stories from New Caledonia, quebecois music, & CΓ΄te d'Ivoire art. 2 students gave a presentation on Ivoirian artist Aboudia, & interviewed him on Instagram for the presentation! I don't know whether to be more impressed or jealous!
We are delighted to launch our new WiF OZ podcast, hosted by Josephine Goldman and @besskearney.bsky.social π!
In the first episode, Beth and Josie talked to our founding President @christiesmbc.bsky.social about being a mum in academia. You can listen to it here:

A version of the kermit vs darth kermit meme where good kermit tells the online academic that they should grade, while darth kermit tells them they should eat more pie.
Every academic right now
"Sometimes, our tests will reveal conditions that aren't an emergency, such as an endometriosis or arthritis," the video stated.
So what happens, TCH, when your 'non-emergency' condition causes so much bleeding you require an urgent blood transfusion?

Would love to be added, please!
4-year-old son asked me last night why I didn't pick him up sooner from after-school club. I said because I'd needed to finish my work & didn't want to get in trouble. His solution?: "Mum, tell your boss there's a giant spider on their head, & whilst they're looking for it, sneak out the door!" π€£π₯°
