Very excited to announce that our collaborative manifesto for π± #PlantScience #Education has now been published! Educators from >10 countries and 30 institutions have contributed to it and we are incredibly proud of the final output. Here is a short thread π§΅1/4 doi.org/10.1002/ppp3...
How do you connect disparate, disconnected student botanists? π±πΏπ³π§ͺπ¬
In our new paper, we show how Botanical University Challenge - a quiz contest - is building an engaged community of plant-aware students, in the UK and beyond.

doi.org/10.1002/ppp3... out today! It's great to write about an area of #Botany that is growing. @seburbanbotany.bsky.social @herbarium.bsky.social @bsbibotany.bsky.social @botsocamerica.bsky.social
Good article, though interesting that so few of those quoted in it would be named on public record. Well done Beccy Speight for speaking out.

Screengrab of article linked in post text. It shows some sort of deer among soya bean crop.
π±π³πΎπΏπ·π΅π Interesting strips of native plants placed among corn & soya beans of Iowa, Missouri & Illinois, USA. Initial trials show reduces soil erosion & nutrient run-off substantially. Also habitat for birds, animals and insects. Now federal USDA funding, 2018 Farm Act. #BUC2025
π±πΎπ³πΊπVery readable & interesting account of successful conservation projects in UK. Needs long-term commitment. Work over decades. Also understanding of life histories & interactions. Plants, soils, water, more plants, a few animals, more plants, and time.

Pictures of ginger plants, one from a herbal, the other of live plants, and of a slice through a rhizome, the edible bit.
πΎππ±πΏπΊSeveral plants in the Zingiberaceae (Ginger) family are edible. Underground stem (rhizome) of Zingiber officinale is used fresh or dried as the spice ginger. Originates in SE Asia, domesticated and selected for flavour. Exported to Europe for over 2000 years. #BUC2025
πΏ What if the species we donβt see hold the key to conservation? In our latest paper (led by Serena Turton-Hughes with @georgeholmes.bsky.social), we discuss "shadow diversity", a new way to think about biodiversity we donβt know exists yet π. Join us on a journey into the unknown π π§ͺ π§΅

Omphalotus nidiformis is a bioluminescent mushroom from Australia. Although not native to Europe, they are available as brood online and quite easy to grow.
was great to meet you and hear your excellent presentation. Some thought provoking content and looking forward to seeing the report (or not perhaps considering the content).
