Right, the getaway part is either before or after the work part, not during.

I just read a post on Reddit by a guy who wanted to turn a business trip into a getaway with his partner and was like DUDE YOU WILL BE AT WORK. Business travel is just commuting.

Note: douchebags are at best completely unnecessary and at worst actively harmful to your body. The ideal slur when you need a slur for some reason. Also useful is “douchecanoe” because that’s a disaster both as a douche (see above) and definitely as a boat.

Part of constantly examining my privilege is being grateful for it. Privilege isn’t inherently evil or wrong. It’s our relationship with it that can turn us into a bunch of douchebags.

But I also remembered that it’s great to work for an employer that does all the invoicing and just pays me a salary and cuts an expense check on the regular. And I have great coworkers and colleagues who I am grateful to work with.

I had a hellish travel day yesterday (assistant booked a hotel on the other side of LA from the job site, traffic, traffic, no bathroom, no functional chargers for ev, traffic, crowded flight, douches, pushy men, aaaaa) and I remembered why business travel sucks

In my licensed profession (architecture) I cannot avoid personal liability for my professional actions by hiding behind a corporation. My home, my retirement savings are all accessible through the courts if I harm people. Will the same personal responsibility attach to chatbot creators?

I hated reading the book, but appreciated the social commentary and was glad I read it. The movie is just a porno version. Not the same plot, not the same situations. But lots of sex that definitely didn’t happen in the book.

An Uber driver tried to kill me today, slowly changing lanes into the side of my car to try to force me out of my lane. I went to report this to Uber but they do not allow anybody but the paying passenger to report dangerous drivers. So any Uber you encounter could be that guy.

This argument reminds me that white people think Asia is one place with one culture and that is fucking exhausting. There are a lot of people who make rice in a lot of places in a lot of different ways and they are all interesting and good in context.

Life is a mix of bad and good and meh. Today feels more good than bad. Even though I tried to eat lunch in the car on the way back and ended up with a big smear on my clothes.

I was up early and out on an icy (literally, weird for coastal California) work site at the crack of dawn. Now I’m so cold I can’t seem to warm up. But on my way back to the office I stopped at the recorder’s office and finally got my deed recorded. I’m now fully free of my abusive ex. Woot!

It is hard to explain to white people how racist scandinavia is even though white supremacists in the US literally use it as an analog for the white ethnostate they want. All I want is free healthcare and a robust social safety net and we can have that in a multicultural society if we want it.

After the election of 2024, many Black Americans and members of other marginalized groups felt deeply betrayed by a white majority (and a near Latino majority) that sent Trump back to the White House. As Trump has done what they had warned he would do - eviscerate civil rights protections, target L.G.B.T.Q. Americans, round up immigrants, erode democratic institutions — Black activists have largely moved their organizing underground, leaving it to white people to get in the streets this time.

And this is where we are now: white folk have to do the work of saving democracy by abandoning their comforts & organizing for justice.

I’ve ingested plenty* of Writer’s Blood by being a chaotic dumbass and it hasn’t killed me yet. Has a somewhat metallic, bitter taste.

Hey, city people. The groundhog thing is a joke. Either there’s six more weeks of winter or spring is only six weeks away. It’s literally the same thing. Seeing you all talk about accuracy as if there’s a difference every year is embarrassing. The first day of spring is March 21 every year.

But the heartbreak of knowing he kept such company is really a lot.
