Sharing the list of countries with tariffs higher than 10%. I’ve highlighted countries in particular that make a lot of consumer goods for the US, so you can see the potential impact of these hold. You can find this list in Annex I on the executive order on whitehouse.gov

Tariffs have been delayed a month for Mexico after Claudia Sheinbaum promises to send 10k troops to the MX-US border. IMO she made the right move feeding Trump’s showboating with something he can wave around as a win. Diplomacy & negotiation over destroying relationships in the name of β€œpower”.

Trump’s first day: tariff threats and a flurry of executive orders Also in today’s newsletter, the competing factions of the Republican party

Interesting chart in this article showing contrasts between fear, joy, anger, positivity & more btwn president’s inauguration speeches. Remember - fear & anger are tools of control - joy, happiness and love are not. Joy is an act of rebellion - don’t let your life be controlled by fear & anger.

No tariff decisions made today - hints at delays until February. Still all over the place - we’ll see what actually unfolds in the next few weeks & months.

The wording of this announcement is extremely worrying. Even if you don’t use TikTok this is showing us what our media, will be like. Be CAREFUL what you consume. Understand that your algorithm will be manipulated and remind yourself regularly. Build networks of ppl you trust to keep you informed.

Tesla sales stall as China's BYD closes in Tesla's ranking as the world's top electric vehicle seller is threatened after sales fell last year.

BYD is a Chinese electric car brand that has been exploding in popularity all over the world - except the US. High tariffs on EV’s are meant to protect the US car industry - but can it survive if our brands are edged out of the rest of the world?

There are 100s, if not 1000s of US companies behind brands you buy in store -incl generic store brands. They all manufacture in average qtys of 3k to 10k units per order. This is tiny & these small US companies are supported by 1000s of small factories in China, not big mega-factories like Foxconn.

In recent comments, Trump talks history of U.S. tariffs. Here's a fact check. Historians say Trump falsely said he was the only president to collect revenue from tariffs on Chinese goods, among other claims.

β€œThe president-elect has argued his tariff plan for his next term could bring in revenue to help defray the cost of income tax cuts.” - so continue to cut taxes for the top 1% and pass the burden onto consumers?

Shipping giant Maersk expects strong demand and 'another year of disruption' for global trade in 2025 From Trump tariffs on China and Mexico to the threat of a U.S. ports strike, the supply chain expects another year of disruption, but also strong demand.

Freight costs also significantly affect prices you see in stores. In addition to tariffs, we expect to see rising freight costs due to increased imports before tariffs are put in place, possibly close to pandemic levels. We are talking $1,200 per container rising to $12,000 per container.

For those following me on TikTok - remember a ban in the US doesn’t mean you can’t access it. Use a VPN! Facebook, Instagram etc are blocked in China but everyone accesses them with a VPN anyway. I will not stop posting. TikTok has become an essential organizing platform for us. #tiktok #tiktokban

Three major US industries hit by China's mineral export controls China's export bans were retaliation for U.S. restrictions on dual-use technologies and could affect the United States' GDP to the tune of $3.4 billion.

β€œ[A] total ban on exports of these minerals could result in a $3.4 billion decrease in U.S. GDP, Sarah Ryker, USGS associate director of energy and minerals, previously told Newsweek in late November.” - When will we realize we are all intertwined on this tiny planet & must to work together?

I want to hear from you! What brands are really 100% Made in USA? #manufacturing #madeinamerica #madeintheusa #usa #american #madeinusa #tariff #tariffs #republican #democrat TikTok video by That Tariff Lady

Know of any brands 100% made in the USA? Drop them here in the comments. 100% means even the raw materials are from the USA. This is meant to be an exercise to think about how enmeshed we really are in the global supply chain & how important it is to be a part of it to continue supporting US jobs!

Can Mexico & Canada be tariffed on day 1? The USMCA agreement (NAFTA 2.0) is set for review in 2026 - could Trump just be trying to light fires to β€œget what he wants” in 2026? Maybe we’ll see these negotiations drawn out over 2025 - bit of optimism for the American consumer in the short term.

Building & connecting with local community is the #1 way to get through hard times. Set fear of upcoming economic hardships aside & use that energy to focus on your immediate community. We are in this together & we will get through this together.

2/2 Yes, shared. For instance, among Mexico's main exporters to the US are GM, Stellantis, & Ford, which arrived in Mexico 80 years ago. Why impose a tariff that would jeopardize them? Such a measure would be unacceptable and would lead to inflation & job losses in both the United States and Mexico”

1/2 Mic drop, Claudia! β€œMigration & drug consumption in the US can’t be addressed through threats or tariffs. What is needed is cooperation & mutual understanding to tackle these significant challenges. For every tariff, there will be a response in kind, until we put at risk our shared enterprises.

Trump has announced 25% tariffs on ALL Mexican & Canadian goods. We will wait & see if this actually passes, but Mexico does not have the ability to comply with his demands. It will just cause economic hardship for Mexicans…AND Americans.

Shipping container prices are expected to increase in the coming months before any tariffs are passed by the incoming administration, because stores are buying more goods to cover a longer period of time. This will also affect prices in stores due to higher shipping costs.

26.11.2024 15:15 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

How do tariffs affect the price of products in stores? A tariff is an import tax paid by the importer to the US government. The importer needs to raise costs to cover this new expense. This means the cost also gets raised for the consumer (you & me!) so the retailer can cover these higher costs.

Photos I took at a very small cut & sew factory in China in 2016. They are sewing sweatshirts. Long days, hard work. This is a glimpse at what manufacturing looks like for those who wish for its return to the US. I’ll be sharing more photos over the next week from different industries.

If they can afford it, it would be wise to make any purchases before next spring - but definitely don’t get into debt. Also make decisions on needs vs. wants and start learning to live frugally.

25.11.2024 19:03 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Manufacturing won’t return to the US. One reason is lack of manpower. China has 1.4 billion people, with over 100 cities with more than 1 million people, some of those over 20 million. We don’t even come close in the US with our meager 345 million people total. Who is going to work in the factories?

25.11.2024 19:01 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Not globally - it would apply to any product that is tariffed when being imported into the US will see price increases, because the importer needs to cover that extra cost. Trump passed sweeping 25% tariffs at the end of his last presidency which contributed to price increases in 2020.

Tariffs replacing income tax? Tariffs cause in-store prices to surge, so who is going to suffer more? Lower & middle income people save a few thousand in taxes, but pay much more in store. I can guarantee the top 1% barely knows the price of bread and doesn’t care how high prices go for you and I.
