The hazard of large debris flows Large debris flows entrain sediment from extreme events like earthquakes and volcanic eruptions to form an escalating hazard.

Excited to share that the final chapter of my PhD has been published in Science Advances. We show that large post-earthquake debris flows in Wenchuan are more frequent than expected due to the large volumes of sediment stored in channels. πŸ”οΈ www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... #landslides

Shifting sands threaten flood-mitigation measures The effect of sediment transport on floods in a changing climate.

A little commentary on a very nice paper (agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/...) that explores the impacts of sediment on flood mitigation measures in Kathmandu. Long story short - floods are more than just water, and this can really matter!
