You ever write something and there are so many parts you hope people engage with that you can't figure out which ones to quote?
I'll do a wee thread on the 3rd, and final, essay from my Red Scares series

New video footage shows a US Tomahawk missile hitting an IRGC facility in Minab, Iran, on Feb 28, showing for the first time that the US struck the area. The footage also shows smoke already rising from the vicinity of the girlsβ school, where 175 people were reportedly killed, including children.
Iranβs people were facing a horrible shortage of water before the war began. If we are destroying desalination plants and setting fire to Teheran we are committing unfathomable crimes.
BREAKING: The US has bombed Tehranβs main refinery and burning oil is now flooding down the streets into the cityβs sewers.
This is a vision from hell, unleashed by the US tonight.

It would be only fair to the reader to say frankly in advance that the attitude of any person toward this story will be distinctly influenced by his theories of the Negro race. If he believes that the Negro in America and in general is an average and ordinary human being, who under given environment develops like other human beings, then he will read this story and judge it by the facts adduced. If, however, he regards the Negro as a distinctly inferior creation, who can never successfully take part in modern civilization and whose emancipation and enfranchisement were gestures against nature, then he will need something more than the sort of facts that I have set down. But this latter person, I am not trying to convince. I am simply pointing out these two points of view, so obvious to Americans, and then without further ado, I am assuming the truth of the first. In fine, I am going to tell this story as though Negroes were ordinary human beings, realizing that this attitude will from the first seriously curtail my audience. W. E. BURGHARDT DU BOIS Atlanta, December, 1934
I'd forgotten how hard the preface to DuBois's "Black Reconstruction" (1934) went...and am saddened by how contemporary it still feels.
Iranian karate champion Narges Hajimola Heydar was killed in US-Israeli airstrikes on Iran.
The Israeli-US athleticide continues.
Alas, that they do exposes the original lie: that any of those institutions and laws were meant to be applied *equally*. We see the truth in Gaza (and Sudan, and Congo...): only White Europeans were meant to have those protections, no one else. And the (White European) colonial project never ended.
Quite an opening paragraph.

Perhaps the guests could include former enlisted military members pointing out the bullshit. Perhaps folks trapped in countries across the world because the State Dept cannot plan could be asked to call in... Perhaps Iranians who oppose the war could be featured...

As I read about neighborhoods bombed in Iran, I've been thinking about its historic sites. News today that Golestan Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, dating to the 16th c was hit.

The war on Iran likely brings a new oil price shock and windfall profits.
So, who stands to win?

Lots of work uses agree-disagree scales, and a lit review shows these are 1) frequently just measured in one direction (agree = higher trait) and 2) correlated with each other.
This has potentially big issues for conclusions.

Maybe itβs because Iβm a colonial historian but so many of these white nation states seem to behave exactly like they did in the 19th century: βyour leaders arenβt right for you,β βweβre only killing you/colonizing you/installing puppet leaders for your own goodβ
They went to war with Iran (which nobody in America was asking for) so they could conjure an excuse to allow ICE to keep murdering Americans and teargassing schools here at home with impunity (which nobody in America was asking for).
In 1979 when Iranian students seized the US embassy they eventually let go all of the Black people working there because they understood that the US would only care about white Americans. Iran understands our society far better than we understand theirs or our own.
Flattened the schools in Palestine so now theyβre working on Iran. Depraved and criminal.
