I was at a campaign event yesterday & a politician friend made this very important point to me: we can talk about all the different MN elections in Nov, but none of them is as close and crucial to fighting fascism than reelecting Keith Ellison

It looks like shit *now* but letβs see what another year brings. 10 years from now itβs going to be scary good. (Iβm not happy about this.)
At some point in the next few weeks, a Minnesotan will hold an "ICE OUT" sign on the podium or at the end of their competition, and they will become a local hero
Three rules in FBI firearm training:
1. Always point your weapon downrange
2. Do not point your weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot
3. Donβt put your finger on the trigger unless you intend to shoot
Guns are not for threatening compliance for unarmed people doing things you donβt like
I deleted rants about the caucuses to replace them with this: if you want to create an equitable organization and democratic policies, doing so in a way that is geared toward a very small subset of people is going to create a narrow, undemocratic organization.
Rebekkah Brunson speaks on Minneapolis before the Wolves game (h/t @gettinggophery.bsky.social)
One of the best things Iβve read in a while:
There should be more murals of 70 year old guy grabbing a bottle of water and walking into the gas than there are of Bob Dylan in this town.
A video of Alex Pretti reading out the final salute of an unnamed veteran he cared for until the end of his life in the ICU, posted to Facebook by his son.
You have to read this. Firsthand affidavit from one of the women who was there and recording the video. She talks about how Alex Pretti was directing traffic when she arrived. She watched him be killed in front of her. She's afraid to go home, worried she'll be arrested.
Protester in Minneapolis just before disappearing in gas: "Fuck you! Stop. Damn! I'm 70 years old and I'm fuckin' angry!"
In some countries the outbreak of bloodshed inspires the opposition party to call for the leader to resign
This interview is outstanding. The constant violations of everyoneβs Constitutional rights by these Federal thugs is beyond words. #iceout
Do something then! Why is it the people on the ground and not our politicians who are fighting back?!?!
I love my country Minnesota #iceout
Location?
Itβs real that struggling businesses are taking the hit today for expressing solidarity with the victims of ICE slavecatchers. So for those with means, I declare the weekend Spent That Shit Saturday and Sunday at their shops and eateries to provide them some instant payback. #spendthatshit
no matter how hard Greg Bovino tries to exude rugged masculinity he always comes off like Don Knotts in a Portlandia sketch
Thousands outside Terminal 1 at the Minneapolis airport now.
In solidarity with today's ICE OUT OF MINNESOTA blackout, MinnMax is donating $1 to the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota for every share of this Bluesky post for the next hour.
ICE has kidnapped so many people from their cars that the city had to put out this statement. Let that sink in.
Is there going to be an emergency @thesportive.com regarding the Wolves-Spurs game?
Posts may be a bit more sporadic from me today as my kids are home from school because my city is being brutalized by the federal government to the extent that it's unsafe for schools to be open
Trump wants a show. Donβt give it to him.
Also, how many inches of snow need to fall for the city to clear it? 1 inch 2β quarter of an inch? What about when spring time comes and we have a freeze/thaw that forms ice on sidewalks? Will the city come out and deal with that?
You clearly have not walked on any the sidewalks cleared by cities like Richfield Edina, Bloomington, etc. Theyβre terrible often far worse than the photo youβre showing.
Iβm not arguing that. I view the position of Mayor similar to CEO. Itβs one that should come with a high wage. Same with the city council and other elected representatives.
I do think the mayor should be paid like the head of a company. He/she/they run a city with a billion dollar+ budget. Itβs a high-stress job. For that matter I think the city council and elected positions in general need to get paid more.
Itβs not poverty, but itβs far from extravagant. Student loans, food, extracurriculars, mortgage, car payments, taxes, on and on. Living on $140 as a family takes work. It shouldnβt, but it does.
