Taking a dive into the wealth of data produced by users of @birdtrack.bsky.social and @birdsoftheworld.bsky.social eBird in Wales in 2025 for @birdsinwales.bsky.social Report.

Number of users, records and time spent were up almost 20% on 2024. Thank you @btobirds.bsky.social for the data pack.

Valuable and interesting evening hosting, on behalf of @birdsinwales.bsky.social, the first online gathering of county bird recorders in Wales and those who verify records in multiple systems. It's a huge job undertaken by a relatively small group of committed and knowledgeable birders. Diolch!

Great to see effort to maintain co-ordinated annual monitoring of Green Sandpipers following the discovery, a few years ago, of the most important Welsh wintering site, and one of most important in the UK - paper in @birdsinwales.bsky.social journal Milvus. #BirdingWales

Great White Egret

Lots of Egret action in the partially flooded fields around Cilsan Bridge. A single gathering of 22 Little Egret was notable whilst this Great White Egret showed very well during a rare spell of sunshine. Flock of 6 Grey Heron too. #birdingWales #UKWildlife @birdsinwales.bsky.social

As winter arrives, what future for our rarest goose? With the autumn pulse of migration over, much of what is seen in North Wales over coming months will depend on weather conditions across northern Europe. A brief stop at Llyn Trawsfynydd en route to.....

In this week's @northwaleslive.bsky.social BirdNotes:
- Greenland White-fronts arrive, but for how much longer?
- recent sightings across #NorthWales
- four awards and prizes at @birdsinwales.bsky.social annual meeting come north.

I love the @birdsinwales.bsky.social conference. The venue, the talks, the food, the stalls, the raffle! All brilliant, da iawn! But I really enjoy the socialising. Break times are scheduled perfectly into the day to catch up, or meet new acquaintances. Annual selfie with BTO’s Gethin Jenkins-Jones!

So well deserved! Both these individuals have played a part in where I am today - Heather via her amazing work on the Welsh Ringing Course (which I attended many moons ago!) and Geoff for entrusting me to monitor his Pied Flycatcher boxes until I relocated to East Anglia.
