Elon Musk is on track to become the world’s first trillionaire. Imagine if his wealth was capped at $999M, and we taxed the rest (~$239B).

We could:

End homelessness: $20B

End hunger: $40B annually to 2030

Build homes: 710K new homes at $308K each

A trillion for one or a future for all?

NEW: A wilderness survival trainer spent years undercover in right-wing militias.

He didn’t tell police or the FBI.

He didn’t tell family or friends.

The one person he told was a ProPublica reporter.

This is his story, by @josh-kaplan.bsky.social:

This is sort of fascinating because if you were to turn on pretty much any talk radio station or pick up any tabloid, you'd be forgiven for thinking it was the inverse.

In my home town, I see teenage boys being pulled towards Andrew Tate and the β€˜manosphere’ | Taj Ali With inequality and insecurity growing, young men are vulnerable, but in Luton the community is showing them a real alternative, says writer Taj Ali

Young men are entering into an economy that is unequal, a society that is atomised and workplaces that are insecure. Right-wing influencers posing as self-help gurus are appealing directly to them. But an alternative is possible. Me for @theguardian.com

"We also need an approach to fossil fuels that moves beyond slogans like β€œkeep it in the ground.” Attempts to punish the fossil fuel industry by limiting leases or permits for export facilities or blocking projects often backfire, creating price spikes with political backlash and price crashes that slow the clean energy transition. Instead, advocates should support stable oil and gas production for the near term while accelerating electric vehicle uptake, with the government acting as a β€œbuyer of last resort” to avoid future price spikes. Price stability would prevent backlash while strengthening the economic incentives for transitioning to clean transportation."

Having welcomed the fall of the "barbaric regime" in Syria, Keir Starmer is now visiting Saudi Arabia and the UAE to deepen UK ties with regimes whose violent, repressive nature resembles that of the Al-Assad dictatorship. 🧡

Syrians celebrate fall of Bashar al-Assad after five decades of dynastic rule Citizens dream of a better future but some are wary of Islamist groups claiming to represent them

The Western media's duplicity has broken all records. When jihadists entered Kabul, ousting the US regime, it was the end of the world. Now that jihadists have entered Damascus to overthrow a secular enemy of the West, it is a triumph of the human spirit. www.theguardian.com/world/2024/d...

Israel appears to be destroying strategic weapon caches around Syria, Iranian assets+aerial defense systems. Given Israeli capabilities this should be read to my best understanding as ensuring that any incoming regime will have limited capacity to threaten Israel proper+grant freedom of action.

For Twitter's many many faults it has exposed a lot of people (me included) to important information we wouldn't've seen elsewhere. Hoping the collapse of that platform doesn't drive a wedge between Western leftists and voices on the ground in places our media fails to inform us about.
