A mere 390 light-years away, Sun-like stars and future planetary systems are forming in the Rho Ophiuchi molecular cloud complex, the closest star-forming region to our fair planet. The James Webb Space Telescope's NIRCam peered into the nearby natal chaos to capture this infrared image at an inspiring scale. The frame spans less than a light-year across the Rho Ophiuchi region and contains about 50 young stars. Brighter stars clearly show Webb's characteristic pattern of diffraction spikes. Huge jets of shocked molecular hydrogen blasting from newborn stars are red in the image, with the large, yellowish dusty cavity carved out by the energetic young star near its centre. Near some stars in the stunning image are shadows cast by their protoplanetary disks. The spectacular cosmic snapshot was released in 2023 to celebrate the successful first year of Webb's exploration of the Universe.

For #FossilFriday, a special look at a historic dinosaur trackway at Maya Dude Ranch near Bandera, Texas. Originally interpreted by Roland Bird in 1940 as that of a "swimming sauropod," discovery of more tracks by "Jurassic Judy" (Neuman) confirmed it as a walking (not swimming!) trackway. π§ͺπ¦πΎ

Comet Lemmon against a static star field
Another comet Lemmon image, taken on 21 Oct.
For this one I used my mono camera with red, green and blue filters to capture colour data, which I added to the main mono image to create an LRGB colour image.
Scope was a 550mm focal length Esprit 100.

Image of comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) taken on 23 October 2025 at 19:04 UT. The comet is a green diffuse object in the centre of the image, with a structured tail sweeping up and away from the head of the comet. Stars are around it and seen as small trails due to the stacking process. Equipment and settings: Canon 250D DSLR through an Evostar 72ED telescope on a Star Adventurer mount. 21 stacked images at 10s exp, 420mm fl, f/5.8, ISO-1600. Using binoculars, I estimated the comet to be about magnitude 4.3, with a 3 degree tail.
Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) on the evening of 23 October. I was battling passing high level cloud, the neighbour's security light and time - the comet was setting behind a rooftop! Quite pleased with the result though, especially the structure in the tail. #Astronomy #Astrophotography #A6Lemmon

πMessier 95πM95 is a barred spiral galaxy about 33 M l-y away in constellation Leo. Star formation is occurring in at least five regions and this clusters contain 1.8β8.7 M stars and may be on the way to forming globular clusters.
