The fact that I don’t actually have kids or that I have my own personal limits/dislikes/icks with some work under the NSFW umbrella makes no difference. I would still trust a room full of Porn Artists with my kids over Politicians, CEOs, & Evangelicals every single time.

Looking at what those puritanical “but the children” types claim vs what crimes have actually taken place in real life… let me tell you; I would sooner trust a room full of Porn Artists with my kids before I would EVER trust a room full of Politicians, CEOs, & Evangelicals.

I don’t know if these words will be of much use (I’m not an American so unfortunately there isn’t much I myself can do) but perhaps they can consider: are any of these reps up for re-election at the midterms?

Adding to this no one is mad at you for having disgust towards whatever you have disgust towards.

There’s *so* much out there I don’t understand or grosses me out in fiction and art. The difference is I know it’s not for me and don’t advocate for isolating/killing people for what they’re into.

I don’t know how much time I’ve ultimately got left on this mortal plain. What I do know is that I can exhaust much less of that time by blocking/muting/hiding art or fiction that isn’t to my liking rather than going on a witch hunt against the stranger(s) who made it.

No disagreements with either you or @innerlmnt.bsky.social. And like him I don’t hold it against the artist. For what it’s worth, even though the numbers can indeed render one numb, for me initially it’s the artists skills, abilities, & ideas that do most of the intimidation.

Of course there are plenty of other reasons
-fear of saying the wrong thing
-feeling intimidated
-dreadfully shy/anxious
-can’t find the words that I think would do their work justice
-want to avoid typing because autocorrect is shit

I could go on, but I have a character limit to contend with 😅

Hard to give a specific answer as I already relate to a lot of the comments (yours included). Ironically, this is actually one of the reasons: cool artists already get such amazing feedback that I just feel irrelevant & unnecessary, that nothing I say would be of any real benefit to them.

I think the biggest damage to the art community was the obsolescence of gallery sites (y!, deviantart, etc) and the rise of scroll-by social media, like twitter and even tumblr. Art is not ''content'', you shouldnt need to post art every day (or every month!) to be relevant. This mindset sucks.

I once made a Voice Actor cry (favourably) by showing her one of my artworks during an autograph session at a Con.
