So I'm hoping that the influx of new members will lead to a revision of some of the weirder policies at conference.

I find this concering too. However, I think this is probably because policy is decided by members at conference, like a TU. Having been a small and fringe party for a long time, some pretty woo woo policies will have crept in over the years, but they can also be scrapped and challenged by members
I like that it's a cow. Primates and corvids get all the attention. Give me more ungulates smashing that glass ceiling!

Removing departments is about removing academic nodes of power and autonomy (and plenty of attendant responsibility by the way) and it is being done practically everywhere outside of college system unis. It always leads to consolidation of power and budget lines in fewer hands. Always.
I know, my office is such a mess⦠ideologies lying around all over the place. Really need to get some sort of filing system.
Yeh, the final season more than makes up for it I guess!
With the exception of that weird slump in the middle of season 2 though
"Elite ideology"... the old cultural Marxism again is it?

Samsies, joined Greens todayπΏ the Labour Party in its current form has become such a disfigured and twisted version of itself, I donβt recognise any of my values in it anymore. If the Greens can do for the left what Reform are doing for the right, then Iβm in

I left it this long to finally quit because my local constituency is good. But the national leadership are now no better than the Tories, and Iβm fucked if I would ever join themβso why would I stay in a party that is becoming a poor imitation of them?
Iβve campaigned and canvassed for Labour. And I know itβs not all bad. But nothing can outweigh the evil of inaction on Gaza, or the abandoning of the most vulnerable in our society.
I was raised in a former mining town in the Labour heartlands, and I now live in a different former mining town in the Labour heartlands. Labour has always been my political home, although I did duck out a bit during the Iraq War years.
My local MP is fantastic. No criticism of her at all. And I know there are good backbenchers out there. But despite the good eggs out there, the party is enabling genocide in Gaza, persecuting pensioners and trans people, and bringing back disastrous austerity.

In all this Bob Vylan pearl clutching some are conveniently forgetting the IDF is committing genocide.
I have had death threats for my work on trans rights. I have been stalked. I have had people try and have me thrown out of my University. I am by no means alone, and lots of trans-inclusive academics have spoken publicly about the violence and harassment they face. But no mention of that here.
Photo of a protest sign made of a brown USPS Priority Mail box being held in a white woman's hand. The sign reads "no tyrants", shown as the word written in black with a blue prohibition circle over it.
I'm struck by how the major political theorist Giles of Rome (c.1278) described the ways tyrants cling to power, including:
βprohibiting study
βimpoverishing the people
βpromoting discord
βmonitoring citizens
βrestricting gatherings
βfomenting war
But that list was a bit hard to fit on a placard...
