Retired. Avid reader, but spends too much time reading news and not enough novels.

Thank you for your continued contributions on this site. I for one very much appreciate them, and the work that you do.

The way things are going, England will become a republic at about the same time as T HD E US becomes a kingdom...

I'm retired now, but I could definitely see how the technology could be used in actuarial work, and it would have the same impact as excel spreadsheets did when they came along. Changes are definitely going to come along, and sooner rather than later.

I think you posted a picture of the critters before. Rather you than me. All I have to contend with are the slugs (but at least I can run faster than them ๐Ÿ˜Š).

There is a surprisingly large number of people for whom the BBC is the only source of news (mainly older, offline people).

There's a great Ibsen season on iplayer at the moment (although some of the best performances date back almost 70 years ๐Ÿ˜Š).

I subscribed a couple of years ago. No regrets. Excellent columns. Best value around IMHO.

Thank you. And a happy new year to you too. Keep smiling and keep happy. Although I live in the UK, I keep up with the news from the US, so wishing you well there too.

There is beauty in the garden, even in mid-December.

Primroses are great for an early burst of colour in the garden. This is the first time I've tried growing them in a wall though. Might have invented a thing lol.

A great interview.

OK, it's been a bad (very bad) news week. But remember that the good people outnumber the bad by 1,000's. It may appear bleak today, but the good will triumph in the end.

Sorry to hear that. I hope you get well soon. Best wishes.

Thanks for posting this, and the links. I follow a number of small bands and artists and I know they only just break even (at best) from touring, and it isn't enough to make a living from. Life must be so, so tough for the vast majority of our creative people. You all have my very best wishes.

Had both vaccines in Oct. Unfortunately, still managed to get flu (there are no guarantees) and, boy, is it ever a nasty one this year. I would strongly recommend getting vaccinated if it helps you avoid what I've just been through.

Thank you very much for a brilliant article, which explained things so much better than I have read elsewhere. As you say, there are huge implications now, because the adaptive measures need to start being made now.

Ordered a copy yesterday and it arrived today. Exemplary service!! And it really is a good looking book. Looking forward to a good reading session tonight.

Is the work worth an Origin Story?

And if Govt are solely posting there, presumably they're also monitoring the replies and other content. Explains a lot of the content that Govt spx are putting out. Poisonous feedback loop.

Sword Of The Spirits trilogy by John Christopher, from the school library. A great sf author for YA or children (Tripods etc). Then an awful lot of sf short story collections.

It is wholly wicked, and to a degree that I can't recall seeing before in my lifetime. This is a huge stain, both on Israel and the rest of the world for allowing it. Words are inadequate.

Third one is a historical account of the Haden phenomenon. So, quite different to the first two, but in the Scalzi style.

John Scalzi. Emperox trilogy. Also his Locked In trilogy. Both excellent, light, well written works. And fun.

I seem to recall you visited Huddersfield last year (my hometown). Genuinely curious, what is there trade related in Huddersfield? (apart from the Harold Wilson statue outside the railway station lol)
