In pleasing climate action news, a rarity, Immediate Media Company hosted a thought provoking and packed out Climate Action Day recently for their teams with practical sessions, tips and intel. They have an audience of some 21m so this is good stuff. If you ever get to hear Clover Hogan, do

TikTok masculinity and the Tradwife (with Feminist Food Journal)
Feed: a food systems podcast Β· Episode
Really enjoyed this podcast on social and gender inequity in food conversations from Table. We need to cook and eat more βrealβfood. Who do we think is going to shoulder this burden? open.spotify.com/episode/1PTM...

Can we launch a class-action lawsuit against recipes that say "30 minutes preparation time!", then leave you - two hours later - a broken-down ruin, standing in the burning rubble of the kitchen, practically wearing the contents of the fridge?

Iβve been plotting with the adult learning team at @britishlibrary.bsky.social and went in yesterday to check in with my partner in crime there Katy Jackson for some four years now (also known as βclientβ in polite circles). A glorious day for it and I canβt wait to tell you more

Four copies of my book Mandalay spread out in a fan
A B&W photo from my book of my grandmother flanked by her two older sisters. They are dressed in long-sleeved silk blouses and embroidered sarongs known as htamein and they have flowers in their hair. The caption reads:
Three sisters: from left to right, my great-aunt and famous writer and dissident 'Ludu' Daw Amar; my paternal grandmother Daw Tin Tin; and my great-aunt and cheroot tycoon 'Naga' Daw Oo. Their fourth sister (the baby, Daw Kyin) and two brothers are not pictured.
My grandmother originally had a paper, printing ink and stationery supplies shop called the Burmese Paper Mart and, as a senior member of the Upper Burma Chamber of Commerce, she was part of the welcome party for China's Prime Minister Zhou Enlai on one of his visits to Burma.
Later on, she started a printing press called Daw Tin Tin & Sons Press which printed my Pwa Oo's Naga brand cheroot labels and supplied materials for my Pwa Amar's publications, including her newspaper The Ludu Daily.
A photo of a Mandalay Medical School reunion held for my parents back in 1989. The women are sitting in the front row along with three of my cousins, my aunt and me - Iβm wearing a white and pink dress. My brothers are in the photo standing further back.
My book is called βMANDALAY: Recipes & Tales from a Burmese Kitchenβ because Mandalay is where my heart lies.
My father and my brothers were all born in Mandalay, and my parents met at Mandalay Medical School.
My tastes, my food, my vocabulary are that of a Mandalay-thu (αααΉααα±αΈαα° - βMandalayanβ).

Dark Laboratory: groundbreaking book argues climate crisis was sparked by colonisation
Tao Leigh Goffe argues climate breakdown is the mutant offspring of European scientific racism and colonialism
βClimate breakdown is the mutant offspring of European scientific racism and colonialism, conceived in the suffering millions of Africans, Asians and Indigenous Americans endured at the altar of capital accumulation.β

The honest truth about airfryers
And fresh new beginnings
Iβve written free to access in depth pieces about cultural appropriation, racism in food TV, the disconnect between food and farming etc on my Substack. I wrote one about air fryers and itβs become my most successful in 3 years π€·π½ββοΈ. If you fancy a read, itβs here: open.substack.com/pub/mallikab...

I buy myself flowers every V Day, alone for the sixth year. Donβt bother this year because last yearβs dried flower arrangement is still going strong. Better to be alone than badly accompanied methinks. Hope none of my exβs are on here!
