Mount Underwood Fire Update:

Fire continues to burn. Road between Port Alberni and Anacla/Bamfield and beyond closed. Power will be out for *at least* 72 hours, if not more. Visitors asked to refrain from traveling to the territories to allow for priority traffic via Cowichan which remains open.

Not for nothing, but would it not make sense for First Nations and indigenous organizations to raid the lists of laid-off federal scientists, administrators and managers? We rely so heavily on federal resources, getting direct help from former employees seems to be logical. #cdnpoli #bcpoli #fnpoli

We need to think beyond protecting what we have and regard risk as opportunity, too. To be obsessed with not-losing is as much an artifact of a colonized mindset as anything else we speak a lot about in our circles.

I choose to be cautiously optimistic.

If indigenous leaders can put aside zero-sum thinking and political point-scoring, we have a real opportunity to help create value in (thus far) globalized markets and *share in it*.

That sounds better than fighting over limited governmental budgets, eh?

We'll need this to catch up and keep up.

For what it's worth, I think the GTD bills passed by BC and Canada are more an opportunity than a threat. They are pieces of enabling legislation that, like the Declaration based laws, depend upon their implementation through subsidiary workplans and regulations.

I've been using NotebookLM by Google lately, and I'm finding it quite compelling and potentially a powerful tool. I will try it to keep abreast of all the different elements of my work in local and tribal government. Thanks to the Google employee who I met at a conference for the recommendation!

I was an avid buyer of EGM and GamePro back in the day, but I wasn't buying them until I was older than when I bought MK2.

I remember getting Mortal Kombat 2 for the SNES in 1993 for like $90 Canadian. That's like $200 in today's money.

I do not have sympathy for folks complaining about the cost of first party switch games being $80/90... Come on, you know Mario Kart World will be worth it, right?

It just strikes me as odd that Alberta and Saskatchewan feel the way they do on the aggregate when their populist Prairie reformer faction took over the major conservative party. It's the progressive and centrist electorate who aren't represented there.

Timely and accurate reporting of indigenous/First Nations news in Nuu-chah-nulth territory has been of high benefit for years, we are lucky to have Ha-shilth-sa on the West Coast. More journalists helps create a landscape where citizens of our Nations could get good information to make good choices.

Looks like Rustad did the right thing, and I'm glad. He's been a friend to Huu-ay-aht in the times we've crossed paths.

What folks aren't talking about with this whole Brodie thing is that it's not necessarily about the potential graves, but rather the implication that the thousands of testimonials can be dismissed because there is no hard evidence of death and abuse. When there are that many, it hardens up quick.
