It’s mechanical almost, the way Izzy shoves down his sweats and Ed settles on his knees between Izzy’s legs. Ed needs it, and it isn’t like Izzy doesn’t want it, so Izzy lets it happen. It’ll be good to clear both of their heads. It might be the last time they do this. They’re both looking for new places, and once they move out, they can just talk to each other through the lawyers, see each other at mediation and court dates, no more need for stilted conversation at the breakfast table and dispassionate sex because no matter how they feel about each other after so many years, they’re still there physically, still know the best way to get each other off, so they just keep letting it happen. Instinctually, Izzy almost reminds Ed to mind his knee. It’s been better than a decade since Ed fucked it up, and he still never puts a pillow under it to begin with, never shifts his weight without Izzy’s disaproving tut or outright order to take care of himself to remind him. But Ed isn’t going to be Izzy’s problem anymore in a few weeks, and he has to learn to take care of himself sometime or spend the rest of his life with his knee creaking and popping and aching the way it does after he comes home from doing this for other men in dingy bathrooms. Maybe it would be good for Ed to hurt. Izzy bites his lip and says nothing as Ed takes his length into his mouth. Ed chokes himself on Izzy, like he’s trying to punish himself for something, only seems to pull back enough to take a breath when Izzy grips his silvery curls and physically pulls him away. It’s intense, the way having the full focus of Edward Teach always is, and as hard as Izzy tries to make it

last, pulling Ed back, digging his nails into his tensed muscle where his free hand rests just above where Ed’s fights to keep his thighs spread, it is almost embarrassingly soon that Izzy comes. Even once he’s finished, Izzy has to fight to pull Ed away from him, to keep him from continuing his attentions past the point of pleasure. It’s then that he looks at Ed’s face, wet with spit and snot and tears, but Ed’s eyes continue to shine more than if he were just well used, a sob welling up from Ed’s throat before he crumples and buries his face against Izzy’s thigh. “Eddie?” Izzy asks, half frantic, petting Ed’s hair now rather than pulling it as Ed muffles a wail against his skin. It takes a moment for Ed to pull himself together enough to speak, although the words he manages are shaky, rough and caught in sobs. “My knee… It’s really over, isn’t it?” As soon as Ed mentions his knee, Izzy is pulling Ed up off the floor, settling him half in his lap so the joint isn’t strained and he can get a hand on it to massage it. He stops when Ed’s tears intensify, but that just makes Ed sob harder, burying his face against Izzy’s neck and leaving him incredibly confused. “What the fuck are you on about, Edward?” “I know we… we’re ending things… but I thought you still… you still cared… maybe you still loved me…” Ed croaks out when he can speak, “But you didn’t bitch about my knee like you always do!”

A fresh round of sobs begins again as Ed blurts out the last sentence, and Izzy can’t help but feel tears well in his own eyes at that. He does a better job of keeping himself pulled together though, cupping the back of Ed’s head and rubbing soothing circles at the base of his skull as he kisses the side of Ed’s face. “I still love you.” he assures. Ed pulls back just enough to look at Izzy’s face at that. “You do?” “Of course I do,” Izzy huffs, impossibly fond, “Twat.” A question remains in Ed’s eyes, and Izzy continues, “Tried to make myself not care. We’re getting a fucking divorce, Edward. You’re not mine to care about anymore.” “I want you to,” Ed scrambles to say, pleading as he brings his hands up to cup Izzy’s face, looks into Izzy’s shining eyes. “I need you, Iz. To care about me. To love me. I know I’ve been shit, but I love you. I don’t want to lose you. We can stay together, try again, Iz, yeah?” Izzy nods as Ed’s face blurs through the tears in his eyes. “Yeah, Eddie,” he manages, leaning in to speak against Ed’s lips, “We can try.”

The blue sign says "Scudamores Boatyards". Very pleased to look back on the energy I could put into this painting while sitting on the bank of Laundress Green.
