The fiat of mad authoritarian leaders is what brings down countries/civilizations.
This surely needs reposting. Itโs such a truism and not generally recognized as such. If only there were enough candidates that would primary everyone. We need publicly supported campaigns and serious campaign finance reform.
"In an age where so many Americans navigate the precarity of the gig economy, it's darkly ironic that the politicians, many of whom have presided over this transformation, have taken to think of their offices as permanent sinecures." www.liberalcurrents.com/democracy-me...
Even in a blowout win, there could be 8 minutes left, the Knicks up by 30 and all the starters are still in the game. Not even considering the unnecessary overuse of players, the question arises about key rotation players getting injured playing these kind of minutes.
The creative act is between the thoughts and structures, in a fretless awareness, that happens forth, unbidden. Being ready to receive it, nurture it, and recognize it at its arrival is the other side, where attention must be present
You can't make the creative act happen. You have to do certain things, otherwise it won't happen. But it won't happen while you are doing them. They create the terms on which the thing will arise. It's a question of how we dispose our consciousnessโthat is, how we attend. Attention is a creative act, and creation is really about the induction of a highly attentive state. It is like an ear that is listening and receptive, without actually having anything at all clear yet to hear. You've got to have some intimation of what it is that's coming, however, because otherwise it couldn't come. On the other hand, you can't actually close down too precisely on what sort of thing it is, because if you do, you will undoubtedly close down on something else. It involves remaining open, and yet being able to receive something which is, in the end, quite specific and particular. (In this, it is somewhat like prayer.) By Iain McGilchrist from his book, 'The Matter with Things: Our Brains, Our Delusions and the Unmaking of the World'.
Iain McGilchrist on how attention is a creative act.
Attention is a moral act: it creates, brings aspects of things into being, but in doing so makes others recede. What a thing is depends on who is attending to it, and in what way. Attention has consequences.~ Iain McGilchrist,
When thinking leads to the unthinkable, it is time to return to simple life. What thinking cannot solve, life solves, and what action never decides is reserved for thinking.~CG Jung, ๐๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ฆ๐ฅ ๐๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฌ
As any good therapist will tell you, you cannot heal what you do not acknowledge, and what you do not consciously acknowledge will remain in control of you from within, festering and destroying you and those around you.~ Richard Rohr
You can refuse a shadow projection and stop the endless cycle of revenge if you have your own shadow under conscious control. To be in the presence of anotherโs shadow and not reply is nothing short of genius.~Robert A. Johnson, ๐๐ธ๐ฏ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐บ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ณ ๐๐ธ๐ฏ ๐๐ฉ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฐ๐ธ
Yes, of course we have to turn off the spigot! ASAP! Right now, though, theyโre overrunning all systems and flooding their coffers with really ill gotten gains.
Itโs why focusing only on the money is a mistake. They want more. And even their planetary domination wonโt be enough for them.
The message seems off. They donโt just want money, they also want world domination for themselves
Reading โThe Art of Isโ now. The subtle embrace of creative moments leads one to wonder about antidotes to the great destruction happening in the United States. Our country will have rallies tomorrow. The rallies may not make the news, but they bring solidarity to our communities.
The only antidote to destruction is creation. ~Stephen Nachmanovitch
It would be nice to see the discussion played out longer
This should get more likes and reposts. It seems people donโt remember the song.
Schoolhouse Rock character I'm Just A Bill tells a little boy "Sorry, kid. There's no song to explain this crap."
This seems a lessee concern in view of their rampant violations of laws and disregard of the Constitution. Which they also donโt pretend to care about.
This reads like the prologue to the most terrifying dystopian novel ever written ... but every word is true.
Excellent, frightening piece, @vermontgmg.bsky.social.
