Though it is day, the sun cannot be seen in Tehran today because of all the smoke following the US and Israel bombing Tehran's oil refineries. People on the ground describe it as armageddon.
History will not forgive Reza Pahlavi, Masih Alinejad, Nazanin Boniadi, and all other "leaders" who tricked Iranians into thinking this war would set them free.
Oh my god: this is *daytime* in Tehran.

#BookHistory mutuals, pls do your magic. A student in my seminar is looking for sources on fingerprints in books. Other than Darnton's reference to inky fingerprints left on the plates of the Encyclopedie, & Folger blog posts by @wynkenhimself.bsky.social, I'm short of ideas. Do you have any? THX!

Israel is bombarding, literally bombarding, two Middle East capitals, Beirut and Tehran, killing 100s of civilians, and yet the US and UK media continue to portray Iran as the threat to the region.
Israel has nukes, but Iran is the nuclear threat.
We live in Orwellian times.

In an interview with a writer at the Dal Gazette yesterday I described professors' commitment to their students as the fumes the university is running on at this point and I really don't think that's an exaggeration, at least on my corner of campus.

okay, Ill bite.
What do you think the point of reading for and writing a literature review is? The process of reading and writing is crucial for THINKING. Your ideas are shaped by all of this, offloading it to gAI, no matter how "good" you think gAI is at it defeats the purpose entirely.

This is not just cursed, its monstrous. The digital resurrection of a historian who died in January of this year, all so Grammarly can get some more clicks and engagement from students and/or scholars and/or others.
It feels so wrong on so many levels, these ghosts enslaved to AI forever

Grammarly is generating miniature LLMs based on academic work so that users can have their writing โreviewedโ by experts like David Abulafia, who died less than two months ago.

Commands around the world, including U.S. Central Command in the Middle East, use Anthropicโs Claude AI tool, people familiar with the matter confirmed. Centcom declined to comment about specific systems being used in its ongoing operation against Iran.
The command uses the tool for intelligence assessments, target identification and simulating battle scenarios even as tension between the company and Pentagon ratcheted up, the people said, highlighting how embedded the AI tools are in military operations.
The WSJ is reporting that AI, specifically Claude, was used in targeting for the attacks by the Epstein Empire.
That would mean the use of AI led directly to the massacre of 115 schoolchildren and 20 volleyball players.

OK so โqueerโ was reclaimed. It went from a slur - to a political slogan - to a broadened identity - to a market - to a HUGE industry. The first rule of markets is expansion, and I have seen the expansion firsthand, and the cynicism behind it in my industry; the music industry. As long as a market is expanding, it is very hard to to fight its negative effects. While the money is pouring in nobody wants to critique it, even its worst excesses, even authoritarianism and child safeguarding get a slide.

No one even used the term โqueerโ unless it was to hurt someone who was gay. There were some brilliant drag queens but they never said they were actual women.
Oh and the parties were fun then. ๐

And I am not telling anyone what to call themselves.
So, Roisin Murphy makes the statement that 'no one used the term "queer" unless it was to hurt someone who was gay'.
I'm unable to ignore this.
The following isn't about making personal comments about Roisin and it's not about the merits of the word, it's about challenging a lie.

Third American death linked to ice uncovered by Newsweek
While the 23-year-old's death was reported in March 2025, it was not made clear that a federal agent fired the fatal shot.
โA federal agent fired shots through the driverโs side windowโ.
Sound familiar?
Thatโs exactly how Renee Nicole Good was killed.
This 23 year old lost his life and ICEโs involvement was covered up for a year.
Theyโre killing people and hiding the evidence.

Thousands of institutions abandoned programs, ended or rewrote scholarships, closed down clubs and publications, all in pre-emptive compliance.
And you know why?
Mostly because they wanted to do it if they thought they could blame someone else for it.
