Some of my relatives spent time mining coal. They pretty unequivocally thought that the type of job one should seek was “literally anything but mining coal.”

I’m hardly a Marxist, but I do have a favorite Marx quote, and it’s one about how capital hoarding is encouraged by the system, and prevents people from doing things like going dancing or to the pub, getting new books, or enjoying hobbies.
