The article I read suggested that he will *ask* their shoe sizes, usually in a round where (stupid as that is) saying a smallish shoe size will get you mocked, so they tell him too-large sizes because Real Man Has Large Foot, and then end up with boats for shoes.
Truly the stupidest timeline.

#jobSearch They *did* contact me and *were* interested π« I have told them no, which was either very stupid or very brave; probably both. The offer felt like one of those "how long would you endure annoying thing if someone paid you really well" memes, tho, with the annoying thing also being evil π¬

βTitanicβ Trump-Epstein statue appears in Washington DC
A statue was placed in Washington DC depicting US President Donald Trump and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Mad respect to the artists behind this π
(Unfortunately this is a video article. It has info abt which group likely staged this and better views of the statue. Also subs for the most part so can be watched on mute.)

I'm idly considering writing about the VUK platform and all the things that go into it: data modelling, journey design, routing, application architecture, to cache or not to cache... I'm envisioning a blog, I guess? With the platform as a hook, but it's really just me talking abt how websites work >

Somehow I find it especially upsetting that she said that to you about tea, famously the beverage you get from boiling bits of plants. Boiling, as in essentially sterilising. Makes me sit here wondering if she thinks making tea involves shoving raw mint leaves into your mouth!

I can also rec Sawbones, the podcast Sydnee McElroy does with (her husband & the oldest McElroy) Justin. She's a doctor. They go thru medical history & talk abt things ppl have considered medical treatment that rly isn't. I fell off when the pandemic hit but there's a lot of eps from before that.

The 1st Adventure Zone I think is essential listening to get how Adventure Zone happened. I also like it the best; it's fun to listen to them go from "lol I'm gonna name my guy after a snack" to "oh shit I made myself cry with my own story". I also enjoyed the 2nd; after that I kinda fell off - ymmv

It makes me so angry that at a time when it should be us going "guys this is exactly like it was then, trust us we know", we've voted political charisma flatliners with foresight barely to the next election into power who need rhetoric coaching to communicate their restaurant order π©

π Tho that seems like a better reason than what's going on here: it feels like a mullish choice for ignorance plus opportunistic right-wingedness & deer-in-the-headlights levels of terror at the chance of being called antisemitic (for the damage it does to one's political standing ofc, nothing else)

Truly mad this is unlikely to happen despite the blatant violations of international law & attempts to undermine fair elections in Nov by the US gov't. Also history can stop with the parallels; yes it's exactly like the 1936 olympics; anyone who wants to get it has gotten it at this point π #uspol

Horatio! He deserved better π©
I think for me it's partly that Hamlet was the 1st Shakespeare play I read, in class on a short student exchange to Canada with a teacher who discussed scenes by showing versions from various movie adaptations, which worked great for me. He was a very good teacher!

Joking aside, I think its popularity is part of what fascinates me abt the play. It seems to distill some sort of essence that is ultimately recognisable & relatable across widely different adaptations. The 'Bohemian Rhapsody' of plays.

Love's Labour's Lost! I saw the production David Tennant did the year he also did his RSC Hamlet; it was hilarious. It also starred Nina Sosanya so I had a very bisexual time in the audience. Man I miss living in the UK and getting to just go and see amazing actors in Shakespeare like it's normal π©

verdict of course only applies to the US, but I can see in general that regulating copyright on the output, not the input, is the best way to protect human creators.
Which means I can stop wondering if I need to be less of a copyright-hater. Turns out less copyright is better than more, after all!

This is a very interesting read that has convinced me that I *don't* want LLM data collection to be judged a copyright violation. Which I know is a divisive thing to say -- I was surprised myself to be feeling it. I hadn't picked apart the distinction yet between the data pool and the output. This >

I've got an RSS feed of global politics news outlets, among them Al Jazeera, who bizarrely mix their sports news in. I wish they didn't! These days, when I read a headline that starts "New Zealand annihilates South Africa", my first thought isn't sports, it's that WW3 has officially started π #uspol

There's also just no way that Meta has built a reliable, all-purpose bot like that. The technology doesn't exist yet. So that text is a misleading exaggeration at best & intended to convince you to give Meta access to your data across apps. Single-purpose data scraping bot: much more likely!
